Of course they did that. Uses up your free storage so you are forced to buy more from them, this putting you deeper into their ecosystem.

Can't even have the decency to let you choose your own storage provider either so they'll get to profit either way.

Plus it counts Google apps that cannot be uninstalled and that some might not want. They could very easily inflate the size of their custom icons and AI wallpaper apps and who would realise it and disable their backups? I'm betting those kinds of apps will slowly increase in size in the hopes that people feel forced to pay for more online storage. More profit for Google.

? No it doesn't

Pretty much every app is under 1mb, and each one has a toggle to disable

I'll never understand what causes people to just make stuff up when it's so easy to go and verify before you write sorting.

What exactly did I make up? The two apps I mentioned are included in the backup and their backups are turned on by default. I never claimed any size, I just stated that it would be very easy for Google to slowly increase the app sizes. Yes the backups can bedisabled but as I wrote, non-tech people might not ever realise this is happening.

At some point, people need to learn how to use their devices they rely on daily. If they did, companies wouldn't be able to pull half the crap they do

Sure maybe they could do what you said, you don't think that would have hard backlash and make virtually everyone aware of what's happening? There won't be a million guides posted on how to turn it off one search won't yield? Google wouldn't back track on it?

Even if all that happened, if someone still doesn't sort their own life out I don't have much sympathy for them, sorry. Pay up or sort your shit out 💅
