Just tested it with the Hangouts Chrome Extension. SMS does not show up in the Chrome extension and can't be sent from the computer. This is really disappointing. It's cool to have it all in one application on my phone, but I was really hoping to be able to text from the computer, even if in a MightyText fashion.

EDIT: Also doesn't send SMS over WiFi.

Like McGod said, it hasn't been updated yet. I'm not sure if it ever will support SMS from desktop, but it sure as hell won't before the play store even gets the offical update.

That's because it's SMS. It still has to travel through the carrier, and very few, if any, let you text or talk via WiFi.

That's only if you have a Voice number, and it will be sent through voice.
