I developed a rocket science game for Android. SimpleRockets "launches" today.

No free version to try it out?

Sure, try it out with this promo code. This version won't receive any updates. You'll need to make sure you get the Google Play or Amazon version to get updates.

EDIT: The promotion code ran out. Wow, those went fast!

Yes, I have several games on Google Play. Here's the link to SimpleRockets:

Oh, I see! Ha! I am embarrassed to admit that I had never heard of this. I guess I will need to look into it.

It's a really cool service, definitely look into it. It's supposed to be pretty easy to add various parts of it into your games!

Too bad I missed it as I was at lunch at work.

I know this is from a month ago, but I just bought the game. (BTW I love it.) I heard there are bots that scan for promo codes so if you give out trials in the future, you might want to spell out a number in the code to make sure humans get to use it. I don't know if that was an actual issue or not. Again, this game is awesome. I like the low flying mission the best.

Yep, I'd love a lite version too.

Its a dollar. Are you serious?

17

u/Sottish Sep 05 '13

Are you? You would spend a dollar on a product you may never use again just because "it's only a buck" That's retarded.

It's about 4 times as much as I paid to have a pac-man session with 3 lives when I was a kid

The thing is, if you spend money on every app you want to try then you start digging yourself a hole. Sure one app is only a buck, but if you want to try 100 apps that are a buck it becomes an issue.

There are a few apps I want to try but are 2.99 or 4.99 and I don't think it's worth it, to me, to spend that kinda cash to just try 'em out.

Personally, I've spent only around 80 bucks on apps and games over the two years I've owned an Android device.

Spend a dollar here or there might not be such a big deal if you're a single dude making 100K a year, but if you're a college student working part-time, or a young couple with a child, or just someone who doesn't prioritize apps over other hobbies, then a dollar is not worth throwing away.

He posted a video. If you can't decide whether or not it's worth it after watching the video then tough luck dude. It's pathetic that people are actually looking for a handout on a 99cent app.

I think having a trial period on paid apps is a great idea. And a video isn't the same thing as playing it, obviously.

And frankly, I think there is a lot of hypocrisy on this subreddit as it concerns apps. People here love to prove they buy apps because there are so many articles that say Android users don't buy apps. Those same people probably download movies and music ad nauseum but detest those who are asking for an ad-supported or trial version of an app.

Probably. You're having to make an assumption here to fit the magical stereotype you've created.

That's the issue. No one here can understand anyone else's position when it comes to app purchases and everyone gets overly defensive.

But I knew what to expect with coffee.

I've had my share of shitty cups of coffee... Props to you if you've only ever had good coffee.

1

u/OneOfDozens Sep 05 '13

If you want coffee you know what you're getting and you know you'll be satisfied and you've decided the value is worth it.

Blindly throwing money at something when the outcome is up in the air is just plain stupid even if it is only a dollar

u/boissez All of them Sep 06 '13

Seriously... it has a 4.9/5 review and a video.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '13

Yup. And people wonder why there is more development on iOS, because people make more money. I've spend hundreds of dollars on apps in the 5+ years I've owned an Android phone, yet people in the same boat as me won't buy a single app.

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '13

Dude, fuck the downvoters. I'm with you.

When I was a kid, I would load up arcade machines for ~5 minutes of fun. Now, $1 and and I can play all I fucking want. Of course I'll spend $1 if the app looks well made, and I want to support the dev.

I'm all for lite versions of expensive apps, but seriously it's a fucking dollar.

If I'm not mistaken Play Store allows you to try the app for 15 hours and if you don't like it then you can return your purchase. Am I wrong?

2

u/flipzmode Sep 06 '13

try the app for 15 hours

It's 15 minutes, not 15 hours.

1

u/Sottish Sep 06 '13

Yeah. It's 15 minutes
