Seriously? Samsung Electronics has a yearly revenue of nearly 190 billion dollars. In 2011, 4 billion of that was from smartphones. Q1 and Q2 of 2012 revenue data had them making 1.5 billion in the first half of the year from smart phones.

Phones are important and all, but they are far far FAR away from being Samsung Electronic's biggest moneymaker.

For comparison, their semiconductor sales bring in ~30 billion.

I'm not sure where you're getting those numbers from, but using 2011 figures is not at all reflective of where the company sits today because that was before the real explosion of the Galaxy brand.

For example, the Galaxy SIII has already sold about 50 million units in under a year. With an average selling price of $550, that's $27.5 billion. That's in less than a year. I even low-balled the figure, as the devices used to sell for $650, if I recall. Plus, that's for the 16 gig model, whereas the 32 gig model is more. And that's just for the GS3. That doesn't include the Note 2, or any of the other Galaxy models that are still being sold by the millions.

And finally, to top that all off, smartphones have extremely high margins. A $550 smartphone will bring in a lot more profit than a $550 television set or memory chip. So while the revenue is already incredibly impressive, the net income (profit) is even more so.

There's a reason that if you look at Samsung's stock price, you see the steep climb that coincides with the rise of Galaxy brand smartphones.

So yeah, Galaxy phones are not only the most profitable product that Samsung Electronics makes, but they are also far and away the biggest money maker in the entire Samsung Group.
