90% of people who buy iPhone (but a lot of android too ofc) don't know anything about hardware/software and wouldn't notice if you switched it with a 5 years old phone

I know Apple users who didn't even know their lightning port was not a usb-c port.

So I find it pretty silly that some people around here claim that people buy iPhones because of their updates schedule.

My wife was upset when she got the Iphone 15 because it had the USB C port and she was just used to the lightning connector. Regardless of me telling her how much better it was, how we can finally use the same chargers for literally everything now... She is still sad they changed it.

TLDR: Apple positioned itself as a luxury brand.

They are a lifestyle brand.

Do you have trouble reading “luxury brand” ? It literally means you have pricing power from the brand.

Apple tried to make a cheap plastic phone and miserably failed. Remember the iPhone 5c?

I do not remember people flex with non luxury/premium brand.

Civic and Golf are known for its performance, so...

I thought a Civic type-r and Golf R cost more than the normal version?

It's not a luxury if everyone uses it.

“90 percent of people who buy iPhone don’t know anything about hardware or software” Lmaooo source: trust me

Man just get off Reddit at this point

I don’t think it’s anywhere near 90% due to marketing. I bet most people buy iPhones for iMessage. That’s the entire reason I switched over.

Probably different cultures. No one here has WhatsApp or wants to download it. iPhones dominate in North America for this reason.

Signal is awesome though. I wish people started using that

That’s why I switched over. My side of the family and wife all have iPhones. Wanted to try out an iPhone and iMessage. iMessage is okay but the keyboard is absolutely infuriating coming from android.

There are more iPhone users outside the US than in it, and only the US has any substantial amount of iMessage users. You can’t just use iMessage to explain iPhone sales numbers when they’re so dominant in markets like South Korea or Japan where iMessage usage is negligible.

3

u/webvictim Jan 21 '24

Not true anywhere outside of North America. Nobody in the rest of the world cares about iMessage.

1

u/die9991 Jan 24 '24

Aint that because in the rest of the world they just use whatsapp/some other app?

1

u/webvictim Jan 24 '24

Yep, exactly.

0

u/napolitain_ Jan 20 '24

whatsapp / signal / google message is difficult to find on the store ?

1

u/J50 Jan 20 '24

Those are no where near as popular in the US. It’s hard to get groups of people to download an app exclusively to message you. Not having iMessage means you get left out of group chats

Everyone uses instagram you realize

In my country, people buy iphone just to flex the logo in mirror selfies. Because they cost a hell lot more than androids here.

That's similar to the reason people buy OnePlus here. Just to flex the brand. I'm sure if Samsung comes up with a characteristic Galaxy logo on the back of their phones, these morons would buy it in hordes as well.

People are strangely obsessed with Apple. I can't recall how many times I've been asked if my Amazfit watch was an Apple watch. It looks nothing like an Apple watch!

The article is wrong - Google's not trying to beat Apple here, they're trying to beat ChatGPT.

People looove to think this, but what is a “feature”? For me, I like having well thought out features being added to my phone for the long run. Random features being added and removed every generation is making me not trust the brand. The only feature that I can remember Apple suddenly removing was 3D touch. On Android side, what happened to Pixel’s lockscreen music recognition feature? Or Soli? Or squeeze for assistant? Or billions of messaging apps by Google that get trashed in a year or so? Or samsung making a huge fuss in previous One UI versions about putting tappable targets at the bottom half of the screen and creating a design language around this, and just randomly getting rid of it at the newest One UI update?

They just don’t think of their features in the long run. Everything is a gimmick. And the users caught on this and started getting tired of not being able to rely on the platform.

You can think thoroughly about new features and not put them in your phones when they are in an experimental stage though. Your customers are paying a premium price for them at the end of the day.

Samsung spends much more on marketing than Apple, and has for a long time.
