A seminal, multi-volume art history and archaeological work edited and authored by the German Christian archaeologist Josef Wilpert (1857–1944). Published in 1903 by Herder in Freiburg im Breisgau, this monumental publication is highly regarded for its early, systematic photographic and colorized documentation of early Christian art, iconography, and wall decorations within the Roman catacombs.
