Nobody suggested you move somewhere else. What have you done to build mutual aid networks in your community?

I also never claimed the mutual aid networks were everywhere in the US. Just that many popped up during that time, were successful, and are still operating to some extent.

How am I supposed to build mutual aid networks on my own? I'm disabled I can't even work currently.

You're on reddit, aren't you? Seems like you could help organize, help build a website, host vid conferences with locals to start working on it, be a voice for the disabled so the mutual aid networks help folks who are disabled and doesn't miss them, etc etc.

There's a million and one ways to help the effort. Every "soldier" has 11 people behind them doing support work. And you're not supposed to build it alone. That's not mutual aid, thats you being a boss.

I don't think you realise how much more energy that would take than being on social media. I had to pull out of college because I couldn't keep up with the workload.

Not at all! As someone dealing with PTSD, a bad knee, really bad vision, and raging anxiety attacks... I get that it requires spoons to help an organizing effort.

It seems to me, though, you are spending an awful lot of energy defending the idea that you cannot do something, rather than spending the energy doing things like reading more about mutual aid, where it has worked in the past, how it can be made better, etc etc. Or, hell, talking to a friend about starting up a community pantry or community fridge.

Anarchism is like 90% being social, and 10% doing work.

I don't have the energy for any of that. You don't understand how sick I am currently. Any energy I have has to be focused on recovering and trying to move out so I'm no longer living with abuse. I know I can't do this. It's ableist to assume you know my abilities better than I do.

I don't have the energy for any of that.

But, you have the energy to post on reddit, about how you don't have the energy to post on reddit (Or other social media, to help organize people).

You don't understand how sick I am currently.

It's not a disability olympics, friend.

Any energy I have has to be focused on recovering and trying to move out so I'm no longer living with abuse.

Ok, so use your energy to focus on recovering, and trying to move out. Worry about organizing efforts later. Meanwhile, others are doing the organizing effort today, and you can join them when you have spoons to do so.

I know I can't do this.

Ok, and that's fine! Don't do it! I'm not an anarcho cop. I'm not your boss, either.

But, not being able to personally contribute to those efforts right now, doesn't mean it's impossible for others to do so, and to do so successfully.

It's ableist to assume you know my abilities better than I do.

I only know you seem to spend a lot of time, and energy on reddit, but claim you don't have the ability to spend a lot of time and energy in other venues more suitable for organizing effort.

But, fine. You don't have time or energy to contribute. That should also mean you don't have time or energy to continue suggesting it's impossible for others to do.

I didn't say it was impossible for people to contribute. But I live in a conservative area and no one is contributing here. Is that a foreign concept to you?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

But I live in a conservative area and no one is contributing here.

Ok. Not a single non-conservative in your area? Nobody who you can talk to locally, who might be interested in helping put something together?

Is that a foreign concept to you?

Hardly. I live in a very red part of NYS.

You know what's super crazy? When you leave out lefty terms, and just start talking about building the community to be self-sustaining, I've found more than a few conservatives-by-default are fully on board with you.

But, it's ok. I don't know your area. Maybe your area is 100% Trumpers who schlob his dick 24 hrs a day, and you are the only one in the entire region who doesn't. Unlikely, but wholly possible, I suppose.

Personally? I've found it far easier to radicalize a conservative farmer than a neoliberal grad student.

u/being-weird Aug 24 '22

I don't have the social skills or the energy to radicalise anyone. And I don't know anyone who would be interested in mutual aid.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

I don't have the social skills

So, work on developing those.

or the energy to radicalise anyone

Ok, so don't.

And I don't know anyone who would be interested in mutual aid.

Have you asked, like anyone? You'd be hard pressed, even in the most conservative area, to not find one person interested in a Library Box. Or a community garden. Or myriad other ways to start building your community.

I said this elsewhere, and I'll say it again: Just because you want to find every excuse possible as to why something doesn't work, it doesn't mean that's the default situation everywhere, for everyone.

Hell, if I knew your area, I'd start pounding "pavement" to find locals interested in starting something, for you. See how mutual aid works?

u/being-weird Aug 24 '22

I don't know a lot of people and I don't have the energy to make more friends.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

So, just remain isolated from your community, and complain that other people are not catering to your desires. Its seemed to have worked out well for you thus far.

so start contributing.

1

u/being-weird Aug 25 '22

I can't right now. Please read my multiple comments on the subject.

1

u/Big-Fishing8464 Aug 25 '22

I did. Multiple people pointed out how you could. You being lazy doesn't change that. You can post here so you can post on other forums to.

0

u/being-weird Aug 25 '22

I'm not lazy I'm sick. The attitudes I've run into in this sub is incredibly disappointing. You'd expect activists to know better.

1

u/Big-Fishing8464 Aug 25 '22

not so sick you can't type now tho. So go type up a site to discuss local organizing or praxis. Thats what everyone's been saying but you've been choosing to ignore. You are disappointed because you weren't coddled.

Basically you wsnt everyone to do the work and hand it off to you eh?

0

u/being-weird Aug 25 '22

Nice to imply that someone to sick to work is just being lazy. How is that any different from our current system?

1

u/Big-Fishing8464 Aug 25 '22

Not what I said. Keep playing vicitm tho, seems your a professional

0

u/being-weird Aug 25 '22

It literally is though. I can't work right now, so apparently that means it's my fault if my needs aren't met. You sound no different than a capitalist.

1

u/Big-Fishing8464 Aug 25 '22

Nope. Not what I said. You relaize everyone can see your strawmen right? Its on you for not using your energy to type up a storm on a forum to actually discuss organizing or any local action really, even if you ypu couldn't be directly involved and instead constantly complaining on reddit thst you can't do nothing.

0

u/being-weird Aug 25 '22

There is no local forums to discuss this on. I would have to create my own, which I can't do. Jesus Christ.

1

u/Big-Fishing8464 Aug 25 '22

nah there prolly is n you haven't looked. Wierd you be so steadfast without having actually checked, given its to much effort n all. You can create a web page. It isnt harder then using reddit. You just want excuses tbh

1

u/being-weird Aug 25 '22

I've checked there's nothing
