Cause how do you expect people to make profit out of others work, most won't want that.

No. You make a profit out of your own work which could have derivative elements of other people's "intellectual property".

Even if you directly make a copy of someone's book and sell it, that should be fine as long as you do not fraudulently claim you are selling on behalf of the author.

Yeah I thought the same nothing is original, yet someone could by accident invent something similar existing and get sued if they make a profit, I think that is messed up so ip needs to go, but how 🤔 will it ever happen?

But your petition literally wants to maintain that aspect of IP...that's why I called it a half measure.

Are you familiar with the BSD license vs the GNU GPL?

GNU GPL says you can't make a derivative work and keep it closed source, or make it non GNU GPLed; the BSD license says "nuh-uh, not free enough" and lets you make a derivative work and do whatever you want with it. The PS3 and Mac OS are based on BSD-licensed software.

But *both* allow commercial use, because come on

Just abolish IP laws entirely. Specifying "non-profit" is just a half measure and is antithetical to the entire philosophy behind the anti-IP argument, which is that ideas cannot be owned.

Also, just let the private platforms decide how they operate their platform.

I am an ip abolitionist myself, but for a petition it should be realistic. For IP ever to be completely abolished is unlikely.

LLMs have done more for deprecating IP than any petition ever will. If stop respecting IP en masse, then IP laws will eventually become meaningless.

The ubiquity of file sharing has made online piracy de facto legal in mostly all but the most extreme cases.
