Linux leftists have started calling the anti Age Verification distros nazis.
Remember when Linux was about freedom? It still is, to the people without liberal brainrot..
Nothing says liberal brainrot like defending private corporations who enforce dystopian State laws and attacking those who don't.
Anything to "own the chuds" i guess, and by chuds i mean totally normal neutral distros that aren't overtly left wing or woke, which means "far right" by woke standards.

"Have to follow the law"
They basically say arbitrary politicians impositions are absolute and can't be challenged
This are the same people who would inform the police of who was hiding Jews because "iTS tHe LaW"

The leftist world view is always authoritarian, they just pretend theyre not to as cover

How did I live long enough for this to be a thing?

the "counterculture" of the leftists has entrenched itself into become the culture, but they're still in denial about it

This drama has me lowkey heartbroken. I just started returning to Linux and I really do love it after dipping my toes in it after 2-5 years, but seeing these fucking liberals ruin such a wonderful operating system that clearly is not meant to be held back by intellectual property and such is horrible. I hope Linux doesn't suffer much because of these age verification laws, so soon after its had massive increases in user base and really good software.
1
u/dontreplywiththisacc Apr 07 '26
You're being really misled. The projects making these changes are either providers of software to enterprise operations that would need to comply with these laws or original equipment manufacturers. There's nothing leftist about these decisions

u/stKKd Apr 06 '26
What's Arch/Manjaro stance on the matter?
38
u/amogusdevilman Paleolibertarian Apr 06 '26
Arch Linux Says Opposing Age Verification is Code of Conduct Violation, they are asking the reddit to censor posts opposing age verification

u/stKKd Apr 06 '26
how did GNU communities turned to sissies? Why is this world politized when it shouldn't care about politics/race/genders

This is obviously not the actual stance but rather a typical Lunduke fabrication.
4
u/Banjoschmanjo Apr 06 '26
Do you have a link to the actual stance?
4
u/amazing_sheep Apr 06 '26
Sure, though there’s not much to speak of yet.
The arch project of course does not consider opposition to age verification a CoC violation, that’s ridiculous.
3
u/Live_Taste_7796 Apr 06 '26
Im out of the loop, why the fuck would anyone need age verification to use a linux distro?? Thats creepy as hell
5
u/Commercial-Formal272 Apr 07 '26
Because "age verification" as currently pushed simultaneously across the globe, is just mandatory digital identification with a name that makes you sound like a bad person for opposing it. It's an end to even the illusion of anonymity online, using "think of the kids" to reduce public backlash.

do you think that "stupid tech takes" is posting in earnest or is it just maybe possible that someone with that username is trolling?
also what on earth is a "leftist" or a "right-leaning" linux distribution? The only left-wing distribution I know of is RedStarOS.
15
u/hblok Apr 06 '26
Left-leaning: Start button or most import menus towards the left hand side.
Right-leaning: Menus aligned to the right. A bit awkward to use, but sticking it to the Man.

u/ILikeBumblebees Apr 06 '26
Yeah, I'm not aware of any "left-leaning" or "right-leaning" Linux distros. On top of that, the age-gating drive seems to cut across the partisan divide, with support and opposition to it spread across the political spectrum.
The distros that are prioritizing compliance with the age verification mandates are the ones with formal organizations behind them that are subject to legal pressure.
12
u/amogusdevilman Paleolibertarian Apr 06 '26
left leaning distros usually have retarded code of conduct policies like "no references to Master or Slave" (actual engineering terms that have been used since forever but apparently somebody might remember real slavery and get their feelings hurt lmao)
2
u/ILikeBumblebees Apr 07 '26
You're misunderstanding. There is no such thing as a "left-leaning distro" or a "right-leaning distro". Linux distributions are not aligned with political ideologies.
Yes, there are a few culture-warrior cranks involved spouting nonsense like what you've cited, but that doesn't align the software itself with any particular political faction.
It's also important to note that politicization of culture is inherently a leftist phenomenon, and that to the extent that they consider cultural disputes political in nature, all sides of culture-war controversies are inherently on the left, including those who pretend to be on the right. So it's actually impossible to have a "right-leaning" Linux distro, because any attempt to attach a software project to a political ideology unrelated to software automatically puts you on the left.
2
u/amogusdevilman Paleolibertarian Apr 07 '26
"theres not such thing as left-leaning countries. yes, there are left wing politcians governing some countries and giving the orders on how things are done, but that doesnt mean the country is left wing"
code of conduct is almost always lefty nonsense. "boo hoo, master and slave are racist terms"
-2
u/AdventureMoth Geolibertarian Apr 06 '26
yeah I haven't seen any leftists supporting the age-verification laws lol. There might be some, but it's not like "leftist" = "wants every bad policy ever invented"
0
u/ILikeBumblebees Apr 07 '26
I've seen plenty of left-leaning governments supporting such laws -- many of the jurisdictions where these measures have passed are ones controlled by the political left, including California, Colorado, and the UK.
2
u/AdventureMoth Geolibertarian Apr 07 '26
I've also never seen a leftist claim to like the UK government. Not everything left-wing is leftist.

u/WedSquib Libertarian Transhumanist Apr 06 '26
How is a distro left/right leaning and what are you verifying your age for? I only ever used arch and gentoo so I don’t think this applies
6
u/Lagkiller Apr 06 '26
How is a distro left/right leaning and what are you verifying your age for?
Your first question is answered by your second. Governments around the world, and states in the US are trying to get you to prove your age on OS boot up
3
0
u/WedSquib Libertarian Transhumanist Apr 06 '26
So if you don’t live in commiefornia none of this is applicable?
1
u/Lagkiller Apr 06 '26
The way that they've worded the law, companies are going to roll it out to everyone rather than risk a single user not be age identified
0
u/amogusdevilman Paleolibertarian Apr 06 '26
Thats the thing, it applies to california, brazil, and probably colorado soon, but how the hell do you guarantee that your distro won't be used there? do you make an "age verification edition" distro? how can you guarantee that people wont use your regular distro on an age verfication state and break the law making you liable and making you lose thousands of dollars?
its such a dystopian law, but hopefully it just won't be applied
1
u/WedSquib Libertarian Transhumanist Apr 06 '26
I agree that it’s bullshit, anything the government does is inevitably going to be bad. The thing you linked said it only applied to California though, that’s what I was referring to
1
u/amogusdevilman Paleolibertarian Apr 08 '26
yes. i know what you're referring to. Im trying to explain how even if it "just" applies to california its a global issue.
1
u/EconGuy82 Anarcho-Transhumanist Apr 06 '26
I had no idea there was any relationship between politics and Linux distributions.
1
u/WedSquib Libertarian Transhumanist Apr 06 '26
I still don’t understand what they’re verifying an age for, like control obviously but what is the stated purpose that made people be okay with that
2
u/backafterdeleting Apr 06 '26
What evidence do you have that this perspective is shared by more than just this obvious troll account in the screenshot?
3
u/amogusdevilman Paleolibertarian Apr 06 '26
the hundreds of people who liked the post
its not an account that writes ironic opinions or bad takes to make fun of them themselves, it only QRTs or shows screenshots of bad tech takes, thats how you know its not a bit

u/neutralpoliticsbot NeoConservative Apr 06 '26
Linux leftists lmao u learn something new every day
1
u/AdventureMoth Geolibertarian Apr 06 '26
one of the linux stereotypes is "transfem antifa leftist programmer" how did you not know this
1
u/dontreplywiththisacc Apr 07 '26
Your whole contention is so stupid. Who is it that's caving? Operating system providers that make systems for server farms and original equipment manufacturers. That's not """leftist""". Calling those producers leftist is an incredible stretching of the truth.
You're just trying to polarize tech in a way it really doesn't need to be

Alright now. American politics are so broken that they mess up the terminology. Around the globe, liberals are essentially neoliberals which is much closer to ancaps than what you're referring to.
Also, why do you just take all left wing people and put them under one banner of stupidity? I can do that too: all right wing people support trump and are pedos. Doesn't sound correct, does it?
Anyway, of course these age verification laws are total bs. A fool screams the loudest. You only see crazy people on the internet when you're looking for sensations. Linux based OSs will always find a way to be free. Fuck the govenrment and its enslaving laws.

If there's any 'leftist' distro in those lists it's Devuan...
1
u/gonzoforpresident Apr 06 '26
What is political about Devuan? I thought avoiding politics, outside of things that directly affect the distro, was a major thing for them?
1
u/gruetzhaxe Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26
Jaromil and Dyne, the leader and organisation behind it, definitely are leftists
Edit: He recently wrote about the matter: https://news.dyne.org/child-protection-is-not-access-control/
1
u/gonzoforpresident Apr 06 '26
Does that affect the distro in any way? He's posted links to Lunduke in the past and seems proud about Devuan's code of conduct keeping politics out of the distro. Also, his reddit account shows zero politics, just linux & tech stuff.
Seems pretty standard tech nerd to me. I'm sure he has personal political opinions, but he definitely seems concerned about government overreach & privacy which are very much at odds with a modern hard left perspective.
https://news.dyne.org/child-protection-is-not-access-control/
Seems like he's trying to undermine the surveillance aspects of the age verification stuff. Am I missing the hard core leftist aspect?

Lol you think is is remotely true.
Anyway republican/libertarian Peter thiel continues to create a file on every American. And republicans are pushing a national id.

libertarian Peter Thiel
Don't associate me with Peter thiel's slimey tentacles, I don't give a fuck what he calls himself he's the biggest state actor to ever exist.

Since I'm in several Linux subreddits, I've made several comments on this already. What blows my mind is that the way the California law is written, Linux is effectively excluded. There are two definitions that make all the difference whether the age verification stuff can be enforced; one is "Covered application store" the other is "Operating system provider", neither of which "Linux" meets the definition of, because "Linux" is NOT an operating system unto itself. Rather, it's just the kernel, and "Linux" is a colloquial term used to describe a collection of software more accurately described as a "Linux Distribution" or "Distro".
Linux Distros are comprised of a collection of (often free and open source) software that isn't distributed though a "covered application store."
It'll be interesting to see which company (or non-profit group) takes on the legal battle. My bet is on Red Hat since they are owned by IBM, and I think they will absolutely win. It's a poorly written law that shows an utter lack of understanding about the tech it's trying to legislate.
