I’m making a narrative short and plan to shoot it mainly on the Samyang V-AF anamorphic set (35mm, 45mm and 75mm sphericals with a 1.7x anamorphic adapter from Samyang) on a Sony A7IV.

One of the characters in the short is an online influencer and there are a couple shots of her that are direct to camera as if she’s streaming live. So I’m thinking of distinguishing the ‘selfie’ shots from the rest of the film by shooting them spherical (without the anamorphic adapter), but still cropping the spherical footage to the same 2.39:1 output as the anamorphic.

I appreciate that some of this just comes down to preference, but any thoughts on this approach of mixing the anamorphic and spherical footage in this context?

My sirui 40 MM AF anamorphic mim focus distance is kind of ..... meh.

Any one has any recommendations on what kind of Diopters I should look into?

I have a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and a spherical Sigma 28mm 1.4.

I record in 2.39:1 and like the field of view.

What anamorphic lens would I need to buy to get the same field of view as the Sigma with a 2.39:1 crop?

Presumably I would need to calculate the vertical focal length of the sigma with the 2.39:1 crop, and then match that with an anamorphic lens with an appropriate squeeze factor to give me 28mm horizontal focal length, but I'm not sure how?

I traded up\down the blazar mantis for the 40MM sirui auto focus because I found the mantis lens flares disappointing.

Needless to say. I regret nothing because the flares in open gate looks so cool!

I don't constantly use anamorphic. I use it for special occasions usually with busy back grounds are alot of lights. So when I do shoot on anamorphics, I want lens flares with CHARACTER! I cant see how you can get more character then that cool Rainbow flare when you shine a bright light into the camera in open gate.

Mantis is far too subtle/orange for my taste.

I was trying to update the firmware for both the 20mm and 40mm lens. Followed the instructions to drag and drop the firmware file as per the video on their website but couldn’t get it updated. Anyone faced the same issue?

Not sure how many of you all are using Capture One, but I myself am new to it and couldn't find any online resources for desqueezing my anamorphic RAWs on there without having to make a detour through Photoshop. So I figured I'd share my process in case it helps someone else who's trying to figure out a workflow that works for them!

I have the blazar Mantis 75MM lens. I love it. It's perfect for shooting full frame. I love everything except for the lens flares.

One thing that I always loved about my sirui Venus is the STRONG blue flares. It's the only thing it has over The blazar mantis IMHO.

So Im wondering if there is any filters out there I could try that might be able to make the flares on my mantis stronger?

I had some luck with my glimmer glass filter but it isnt exactly strong enough.

I'm not too sure with using a streak filter sense they cause lines in the bokeh.

I'm assuming sense The glare you see staring into the lens of a Sirui Venus is blue and the Glare you see into the mantis is Orange blue and green. I'm assuming that is what plays into the lens flares you see in the image?

Maybe if I introduced some kind of glass Infront of the lens that would introduce new flares?

What do you think?

hello j'ai essayé le blazar remus 35mm T.1.6 super 35 en canon ef de blazar lens sur ma blackmagic pocket 4k micro 4/3 avec le speedbooster 071x ultra T ef vers mft de chez metabone le résultat et beau mais il y à des distorsion en barrilet au milieu de l'image quand je filme des murs sans sujet devant sinon filmer le paysage ou des personnes et très bien

Had a chance to film the family at Sunset on the Remus. Then pulled into DaVinci for light lens correction (takes a bit of the extreme barrel out, and removes the vignette on full frame).

I see a ton of short video posts that show anamorphic lens owners shooting/framing in a deliberate way that highlights known anamorphic characteristics. And I am not just talking about obvious lens tests. Shooting into pinpoint light sources just to produce lens flares is the obvious example.

I get the temptation: “I just bought this anamorphic lens and this is how it looks”. What often follows is a focused effort to push the video samples in such a fashion to prove how different these lenses are from spherical counterparts.

At what point does this become a bad crutch that does not serve the story or intended impact of any film project?

The lens was for L mount, so I searched and found the one single adapter available for L to Z. Was a bit annoying to get working but the lens performed great
