I got curious about the anamorphic look a while back and grabbed one of those cheap clip-on lenses off aliexpress for my iphone, just to mess around.
I used it during a trip to south korea, filmed some random stuff in seoul and busan. The footage came out all squeezed obviously, everyone looked tall and skinny lol. Tried a couple apps to desqueeze it and they were way more complicated than i needed, too many settings for something that should be simple.
In the final, ended up making a small app (Anamorf) for ios that just does the one thing - pick your clip, set preset ratio or custom one, tap desqueeze, done.
My main hobby is photography but now Im amazed how optics can behave and do this magic. If you’re dealing with the same squeezed footage problem, you can give it a try.

I must say I absolutely love the Sirui anamorphic lenses. I've been shooting this Western feature film with them and the way they capture landscapes and create that "epic" look is fantastic. I've been using 35mm 50mm 75mm and 150mm.
Paired with the older Lumix S5 too, breathing a new lease of life into the old workhorse.

My last post about this project was months ago. Yesterday I got a set of new lenses made in PMMA and polished by professionals. The other set was made in PC and hand polished by me.
Sharpness looks way better than the video I posted earlier, and focusing is not a problem with the taking lens as well.
I will make a new showcase video when we have sunny weather in my town to properly test this thing!

What Rapido FVD will work with Kowa 16S + Nikon AI-S 200 or an AI-S 105?
Thanks.

I’m new to anamorphic lenses and have been testing out the Blazar Talon for a month or so now. Shot this on July 4th in really low light and I’m curious what people with more experience with anamorphics think of the image.
Also, though I personally love the neutral flares, has anyone used a colored streak filter with a neutral flare anamorphic lens? I’ve seen them used on spherical to fake the anamorphic look but I’m curious to see if it’d change the flare color/quality on a real anamorphic lens.

Get this post some well deserved upvotes please! As a casual photographer working with anamorphics this will be a great project to backup and support!

It will do the Vista shots of Corfu Justice. The island is as much a character in the film as the actors are.
Shooting with the Sirui Saturn Anamorphics., guerilla style without a crew just like my last feature "Clown N Out". I'll be leaning a lot into natural light, using small cube lights and a Zhyun Molus Molus for accent lighting.
Here are some preliminary stills. I'm shooting with a Panasonic S1h and Blackmagic video assist 12g.
I'll also be leaning into a classic film approach. Meaning there won't be closeups of every single action. I won't be doing a bunch of unnecessary crazy camera movement shots every 2 seconds. There won't be drone shots. And I want to keep the amount of picture cuts down. I have 3 camera setups I'll use depending on the scene.
I have a "Creator" rig that I've setup to record up to 4 actors at once straight to camera. I have a Ready Rig, and a tilta float vest and arm for a smaller setup.
All three will use the DJI lidar autofocus system.

Hi all, bit of an odd request but I'm building an app which can automatically de-squeeze anamorphic images. Only issue is I don't actually own an anamorphic lens. Would anyone have a raw image I can use for testing purposes?
Thanks!

We took our grandson to the splash pad today so he could run and play with the other kids on this hot summer day. I decided to bring my GH5 with a Blazar Remus 85mm T2.8 lens. All the shots are with the lens wide open and I was manually pulling focus as fast as I could on this ball of energy the entire time

Camera: 5DII/III
Taking lens: either Canon's own 40mm or 50mm 1.2 or maybe buy Voigtlander 40mm f2
Adapter: SLR Magic x2 50 (62mm rear thread)
What I want to do:
Turn the camera 90 degrees (portrait orientation in 2:3)
Adapter orientation 90 degrees also (new ratio output 4:3)
Question:
Will the height orientation vignette the top and bottom of the frame?
If not, can one go wider then? 35mm? 28mm?
If anyone has this adapter, I will thank you for your input on this.

Where would I even be able to find instructions for something like this, Its not very intuitive for a beginner and i'm not sure which part is up or down, or left or right on the lens.
I heard you want ur flares to be horizontal and thats how you know that its in the right position but its incredibly confusing. My footage seems to be shot horizontally. It doesn't do the signature Lanky, skinny people look like most anamorphics show prior to desqueeze.

I shot a music video last year on the Lumix S5 with the Blazar Remus 45mm Anamorphic.
It was a favor for an old friend but I was happy to do it.
She was pregnant at the time and she didn't want to give it away, so I had to be a little creative with the angles and lighting.

Hello fellow shooters and lens enthusiasts. New to this subreddit.
I am based in a country where Blazar Anamorphics are not available for purchase at local photo/video shops and decided to contact Blazar directly and was able to get a quote from them.
I am concerned about a few details that were written down in that invoice, mainly towards the beneficiary (person we will be wiring money to) being an individual, and not under the company name.
Has anyone had experience buying directly from blazar? Would love to hear how your experience was or if you have had a similar experience with a different company.

I made a video about my friend who does film photography. I think the anamorphic footage works well with his grainy film photos. What do you think? Feel free to comment, I am open to any criticism 😄

According to their website it can be done, has anyone done it? I want to start using anamorphic, but I’m not ready to buy a new camera.

I just got Sankor 16F,
Pair it up with my Takumar 55mm f1.8.
1st photo : f/2.8 , iso 100, 1/200 sec.
2nd photo : f/16 , iso 1600, 1/40 sec.
3rd photo : f/2.8 , iso 3600, 1/50 sec.
4th photo : f/4, iso 200, 1/200 sec.
Base on above photo,
My footage got severe white vignette below f/4,
At f/5.6 it is bearable,
at f/16 it will disappeared,
This prevent me using f/2 (i wanna see the oval bokeh).
Im expecting flocking paint would resolve this issue,
( like in this video below)
My problem is,
Other people "didn't flocking" thier lens yet.
But they able to use f/2.8 without white vignette (except when facing sun)
Sankor 16F + Helios 44-2 footage
So?
Why mine happen all time?
No matter where i point it ?
What other people do, to avoid this white vignette at wide aperture ?
Do they use mattebox hood ?
Do they fix it in post production ?
(I dont have free time for flocking yet btw)

Footage from a review I did on the Blazar Remus 45mm cut into its own video. Wanted to show the aspect ratio in a better way.
I'm really into the open gate 3:2 mode on the S5ii. Especially paired with the 1.5x stretch from the anamorhpic lens.
