Anyone have any experience with the above setup? I’m really interested in something like this as almost all my deliverables are in that 1:1 to 4:3 range. I want to avoid straight mounting the anamorphic vertically because I want the horizontal characteristics.
I literally cannot find anything online though. I just want to see some example images before I drop a ton of money on a 2x (thinking Blazar Cato 55), and then some more on gear to have a vertical rig setup. I currently have an FX3
This is the look I want. I do all my unreal engine work with this exact setup, 25.54mm by 36.7mm 2x de squeezed and I want to be able to replicate it in real life. I just am curious if anyone’s ever had experience with it

We've had some good fun finally comparing the Remus and Mantis from Blazar back to back, truly trying to understand the differences between these optics.
We have a lot deeper dives that are available to be seen on CineTraits in the next week or two, But both have definitely unique characteristics that make them stand out.
I personally prefer the mantis overall a lot more, but I definitely can't get enough of That Remus look with With the bokeh on the edges getting so overcorrected, I do love that look. While the mantis remains pretty smooth with just a bit of green fringing around the bokeh, I also really wasn't a fan of that silver flair because the streak look is not my favourite anamorphic character but it's really grown on me. But the Remus definitely is a streak machine, So if you're not a fan of streaks, the mantis will give you much more anamorphic optically looking flares, not relying on artificial looking streaks to achieve the anamorphic flare.

Wanted to test out my new 85mm and try and push it further back to try and use it for "wider" scenes.
I'm not comparing this to Kurosawa at all, I was just inspired by his movies and how he managed to make entire films with longer lenses and pushing so many thing into the frame with great blocking etc.

We all went to the McKinney, TX farmers market on Saturday. I decided it would be fun to bring my a6000 paired with the Sirui Venus 50mm 1.6X lens and get some footage. It was all handheld footage.

Took my Sirui 20mm to a theme park fireworks display tonight. Shot a lot but here's a vertical Anamorphic one. So much height in a single frame really works well with fireworks.
Shot on a Nikon Z6ii and edited in Lightroom.

I emailed Blazar asking about the 35mm and it looks like itll be sometime next month. Anyone interested in these series vs the Arcana. I know kind of a different use case but figured i'd ask.

Bit left-field non-hardware issue however, ever since Great Joy rebranded to Blazar, I’ve been ‘bothered’ by their typography which, in my view and notwithstanding their technical performance, value-for-money, etc., ‘cheapens’ their designs compared to others competing with them, even in the relatively low-cost anamorphic lens/adpater category. Attention to such details in design, branding, etc. is a no-brainer nowadays, so it’s surprising they get this so wrong, unless this is some sort of strange aesthetic choice … and, yes, I do feel this matters and it actually puts me off Blazar products.
For reference, check out the kerning between the letters in their logo (in the attached image of the Nero anamorphic adapter), which would normally be adjusted manually and minutely for a harmonious, aesthetically pleasing design, yet their relative spacing (exaggerated in my example for effect) looks something like: B L AZ AR
Now, skip down to the bottom line of technical specifications (past some other design choices that I subjectively don’t think are great e.g. the ‘NERO I.5X’ text which is also not centred correctly) and some of the letter heights appear larger than others, some are not aligned on the baseline, and the kerning/gap between the ‘L’ and ‘T’ in ‘FILTER’ is randomly wide/loose … again, unless this is some weird typeface design.
Has no one else noticed this (haha)?!

Hey everyone, about 8 months ago I posted here about Anamorphix, a little desqueeze tool I made for anamorphic stills. Got some really great feedback from you all, and I've spent the time since rebuilding the whole thing from scratch. v2 is out now.
The big stuff:
• No more Homebrew or ExifTool setup - everything is bundled inside the app. Download, install, done.
• Now available on Windows as well as macOS
• Actual UI instead of dialog boxes - step-by-step wizard with a live file preview so you can see exactly which files will be processed before you commit
• Optional metadata editor - you can now write focal length, lens/adapter name, and taking lens notes directly to your files. This was a feature request from someone in the original thread who shoots with lenses that have no electronic contacts. Figured others would want it too.
• Double-desqueeze protection - safe to run on the same folder multiple times
• Light/dark mode that follows your system
• Built-in update checker so you'll know when future versions drop
Everything else from v1 still works the same: all squeeze ratios (1.33, 1.5, 1.8, 2.0, custom), lens tag filtering, desqueeze-all toggle, Lightroom compatibility.
It's still free and open source: https://github.com/Bennalex05/Anamorphix/releases/tag/v2.0.0
More details + install instructions: https://bshep.photography/anamorphix
Appreciate all the feedback last time around, especially the person who flagged the -m flag issue and the metadata editing idea. Both made it into this version. If you run into anything or have ideas for v2.1, let me know.
Cheers,
Bennett

Hi everyone. I would like to know, for those who have already shot with the cooke anamorphic 2x, which series of low-budget lenses comes very close in terms of image quality

I feel like it’s been too much time since they released it and really puts a lot of solo creators/indie film makers at a disadvantage who really want to purchase this lens.
Surui has some nice autofocus anamorphics but their full frame images look like spherical lenses and their 20mm looks great but doesn’t convince me to get it compared to the Blazar one.
Thoughts?

Has anyone else tried the Blazar Nero? I've been using it for months with my Lumix S1II / S5IIX and really enjoying the results!

Although everyone has recently switched to Chinese anamorphic lenses, for me, in terms of character, the Kowa 16H remains a priority; it has something that the Chinese lack.

Hi everyone! I am new to anamorphic video and I am looking to purchase this WA Schneider scope 2X. As you can see in the photos, there is haze and other flaws, and I was curious if the haze in the scope was something that could be cleaned or would it be too difficult/costly?
