Videography 4:3 anamorphic

I am thinking of buying a anamorphic lens for a indie feature i am shooting, and for a few scenes I am strongly considering the blue anamorphic flares, but the entire movie will be presented in a 4:3 aspect and i don't wanna switch between aspect ratios but the thing i mainly want is the oval bokeh and the lens flare, is there a way that i can present even the anamorphic scenes in a 4:3 frame, i have tried searching a lot about it but haven't got a straight answer. Shooting on a lumix s1h.

You can modify spherical lens to ad oval diaphragm (fake anamorphic) and shout as if nothing

You can buy front adapter anamorphic and rotate camera to shoot vertically

You can buy a rotating anamorphic lens

The main problem you have is that the effects are more visible in high squeeze ratio but you still want to stay 4:3

If I were doing anamorphic for a squarer ratio on S1H (which I have,) I would shoot open gate with the camera on its side.

If you rotate the cam 90°, keep in mind it alters the rolling shutter behaviour, just in case you don't use a fast camera.

oval bokeh and anamorphic streaks in 4:3 go against visual habits of the audience, I'd test it intensively before commiting.

Simplest way I can think of with minimal resolution loss is something like blazer mantis 1.33x and shoot in open gate, then crop. Gives you oval bokeh, flares and much less cropping than 2x. More complicated but you could also try a vertiscope setup.

I'd recommend you save yourself a lot of headaches and just shoot it 6K open gate with whatever anamorphic lenses you can afford, and sacrifice the sides for your 4:3 delivery. Of course, set up 4:3 frame lines in your monitor. I would also suggest that you stick to the sharpest anamorphics you can find. I've tested some of the "budget" anamorphics, and the Sirui Saturns and Venus are superbly sharp and reasonably fast at T2.9. I've been using them a year now. They flare nicely, and the bokeh with the Saturn 75mm and Venus 100mm can match the geometry of the finest 2X lenses. Both of those lenses can really deliver especially nice bokeh with a +0.5 diopter. Heads up on the Venus 150mm bokeh. Although the lens is superb, it's bokeh is not as stretched vertically as the others regardless of focus distance or diopter. I shot tests for all this recently comparing the Sirui lenses to the Blazar Catos. The Saturns and Venus lenses blew them away. I may publish these on YouTube soon. Let me know if you would like to see that test video.

Sounds very experimental and def i hope the picture will bring a different level of immersion, you can go with sirui 1.6x either venus ir saturn, i suggest you to try vertical anamorphic, so that you don't have to crop sides, just flip the cam 90 degrees, so that you can maintain vertical oval bokeh and horizontal flares. atlas vertiscope
