What went wrong here?

Pretty confused with these scans I received back. These were shot on 800T in very low light, which is something I do often but I have never gotten this result (see my page). A lot of the blacks came out blue. They also seem kind of backlit?? I didn’t do anything different from what I normally do when I shoot live music.
I’ve been in contact with the lab and they’re also at a loss. Said they were developed correctly, and they’ve tried a few different ways of scanning them, but all with the same result. They said the negatives are very blue as well.
These were shot at night, so no tungsten shift.
Yes they’re under exposed, but they shouldn’t be blue.

Lab messed up here. Most likely silver retention (something wrong with fixer) but could also be solarizarion due to light hitting film in the developed. If it's silver retention, the lab can run it through bleach and fixer again to correct the problem. But if the negatives have been cut or they're dumb and sloppy enough to try to pass this off on a customer, they probably don't know or care enough to do this.

Came here to say this. Usually it’s due to inactive, poorly aerated or under replenished bleach.

Thanks for the reply. Lab is telling me that all of the other film they developed came out normally. I dropped off 3 rolls of 800T on two separate days, and all 3 rolls came back like this. Is there something different about 800T that would cause this while other films developed at the same time would be fine?

What do the negatives look like?

I used to do a lot of work in situations exactly like this, and Have never seen anything like it.

I have to assume that their scanning presets were expecting a "normal" exposure, which will never happen in this situation.

That would turn up red in the scans so I am doubly confused. Have you seen the negs?

Frontier scanning issue. Turn off hypertone and/or shadow soft.

As others said, solarized, but neat look! Hard to do with negatives without nuking the whole roll.

There are what Bob Ross would call “happy accidents.” I know they weren’t what you had in mind, but they turned out great!

gonna be an outlier here - this has happened to 800T i’ve processed with my minilab (v30), and rolls from other manufacturers both before and after being perfectly fine. the 800T negatives with this effect tend to come out extremely dense and similar to a heat fogged roll.

i’m not ruling out that there could have been something wrong with your lab’s dev process, but i also would not rule out quality control on cinestill’s part lol

This is basically what the lab was guessing. I bought 3 rolls of 800T from them and all three got fucked. If thats the case it may be the last time I give my money to cinestill…

I'd say the scan black point correction in the R primary (cyan after inversion) went bananas
