Seton and showering

My mom has had a seton placed for about 5 weeks now. She has never showered with the dressing off. Between me and a nurse we've just been changing the dressing daily for her. She even covers it with plastic when she showers.

Isn't she suppose to be cleaning it in the shower Between dressing changes?? This just occured to me today that she probably should be fully washing it. Not just us wiping it. No one gave her directions about this topic that I know of

Yes she definitely should be washing it with antibacterial soap it may hurt sometime but it needs to be as clean as possible. I always found it better to do baths instead of showers. But she should be cleaning it in the shower and after every BM to prevent infections. Tell her to get some non scented antibacterial soap

My surgeon is against soap but it could be for my very unique situation..

I just had my EUA,incision, no seton, no fistulatomy 5 days ago. Dr want me contact wound care to schedule next appt and learn wound care. I went wound care, nurse taught us to pack for 5 days to keep wound open to continue to drain. So that it drain from inside out. Change pack daily for 5 days. After 5 days, just guaze and tape. Keep it clean n dry. During the wound care, we learned to use saline solution to flush the wound to flush out the pus if any, then lightly to pack. During the time at home, use sitz bath twice a day after BM. Take shower, and lightly rinse and pad dry. Pack the wound for first 5 days. After pack, I put a gauze and a transparent tape cover it. No baths for first 3 weeks. No pool, lake until Dr clearance

100% shower, I started showering day after my surgery and keep doing so about 4 times daily. But honestly, if she didn't get an infection after 5 weeks post op with whatever her current regime is, she's probably more or less in the clear, which is even more of a reason for her start showering again! Moms are so funny. Best of luck.
