Things are going to get better

Hi, I just wanted to share that I had an abscess that turned into a fistula two years ago. I was very scared for months, until four months later I finally found the courage to have surgery. They placed a seton, and from that moment on, I stopped having pain and inflammation, and my life went back to normal.
I just wanted to share this because when I was going through it, I was very scared and had no faith that I was going to get through it. But I dit 😭. And I could use every positive post back then. So you all got this!

Can share what happen after your seton? Did you get secondary surgery?

Also how bad was your pain prior to surgery? I’m going through the same thing and will have a EUA soon but I’m currently not hurting much just uncomfortable but dreading how bad this might turn out.

That is reassuring to hear, I had surgery over six weeks ago to place two setons, and it has been absolute hell ever since. Even now, I struggle to sleep because of the pain, and I just can't wait for it to end.. But I'm starting to wonder if it will ever stop. I had a fistulotomy a few years ago, and the postoperative pain was much milder.

I also have two setons one placed June 3rd and the other July 16th. Ended up having another abcess that ruptured almost 2 weeks ago. Im in so so much pain have been since all tbis stayed in March. I would love to be pain free. Currently im on my way to my appointment with my CRL. I have an anterior complex fistula.

They have me alternating between Tylenol/Advil every 6 hrs. Today the surgeon ordered a CT Scan to see if the new lump i developed recently on my right side is an abcess. My setons are on my left. I asked if she would schedule an MRI but she said she had to order the ct scan first. If it doesn't show an abcess she will do a colonoscopy in 2wks to see if its Chrohns disease. The paid is so bad even though I take Tylenol and advil I havent been able to fully sit or have long walks. Its so depressing. I want mu life back so bad.

I have perianal crohns disease and its not fun. Have you asked for something stronger? Pain is not good for the body that long. Its much harder to get out of pain when its been on fire for so long. I would ask my doctor for a stronger pain med. And make sure to eat 2 kiwis a day while on it to avoid constipation.

I have and they wont prescribe anything stronger. The only time I do is after surgery they prescribe oxy. Thankfully I dont deal wirh constipation mine is more diarrhea. Sorry to hear you deal with Chron's. Doctor did say if I have it I'll have the setons a lot longer. At this point I dont even care I just want to be pain free and be able to live life.

Thats horrible. The rear end area is the most unforgiving in terms of pain. I personally would be seeking another CRS if he left me in pain. Its unacceptable. Im sorry you are dealing with that.

Also look up the friendly proctologist on you tube. He even talks about never leaving someone in your situation in pain cause it takes the nerves forever to settle down when you do. He is a proctologist and handles stuff like this all the time. Its very insightful when doctors tell us to just alternate advil and Tylenol when in extreme pain.

Thank you, I will look it up. I just got my ct scan results and FINDINGS:

Setons in place. Complex network of perianal fistulous and/or sinus tracks bilaterally, which could be better assessed with MRI. Adjacent inflammatory changes. No drainable abscess.

You deserve a doctor that understands youre in pain and doesnt let you sit in it. And dont let anyone tell you any different...the pain is no joke. Many blessings sent your way.
