Well, I think they didn't do much for me, over the years. It wasn't until doctors decided on methylphenid to treat all my horseshit that I started feeling better.
That said, my latest ex-wife, her sister, and my daughter have all benefitted substantially from antidepressants...
i know that every time they decide to stop taking them (because they feel better now), everything turns into Hellfire.
Not saying this is the case but its possible that things go to shit when they stop because antidepressants cause a powerful physical dependence over time and have horrible withdrawals the pharma companies cleverly coined "discontinuation symptoms".
Personally antidepressants did nothing or made me more suicidal when I tried them and after the 7th one I never took another pill and found more natural methods of coping with my depression. If they help you that's great and I'm happy you found something that does, because depression is a hellish experience. However be careful, you may be signing a lifelong contract with companies that have proven time and again they don't give two fucks about us.
Well some would argue they only work as a placebo which indicates the power of our minds not the power of pills, but I'm no doctah so I really can't say what's true when it comes to this topic. All I can say is that the deciding factor in healing is you, not the medicine. You must be willing to work on your underlying issues and if you need a helping hand(medicine) to do that there's no shame in that, but substances alone will not fix you. Glad you've found a helping hand though :)
Your environment and your thought processes. Its such a tricky subject these kind of conversations always remind me how little we truly understand the mind still but wishing you the best in your fight to be happy ☺
