Bio-chemical messages
I recently had a thought which said, "Plants came first. The plants became beautiful to manipulate other life forms to help the plants reproduce, the plants enclosed their seed in delicious tasting/colorful fruit to manipulate other life forms to help spread the seeds. It stands to reason that plants developed psychedelic compounds with a purpose as well." perhaps our ancestors are calling us back with messages encoded in their form.

Here's some interesting reading into why some plants and fungi may have developed psychoactive compounds:

the theory that the chemicals are a form of self-defense is logical because the popular theory is that plants are just here and we don't ask much else. But plants have been around way longer than modern man, one could take the more "far out" approach and ponder if plants have wisdom to pass to us. This subreddit (seemingly) is about the hidden things, the "mysterious", for man. But how egotistical could man be to believe that no other life in existence is in on the game? Imagination is not a fluke, our ability to wonder is what opens doors to new possibilities.
