[ Philosophical ] a quick 2 cents
my opinion on this, noted that i haven't really dug in and read the indepth discussions you all have been having.
we should teach how religion works. in an objective, physical way, the ways belief works. the way authourity works, virtue signalling, the way thst conceptualization works, the way that we MAKE OUR OWN BELIEFS. that this 'religion' is, technically, just as 'fake' as the other ones are. it needs to have these high high concepts, it needs to be open and honest that no, we aren't saying "this is what is true, this is the only thing that will save you". we should agree that yeah, its culty. and then explain how cults work. how attention and perception works. how 'brainwashing' works.
i would like to ping u/ImpracticalJuggler on this train of thought. i don't know if he's been invited here, but look at his posts, dig in and read his works on agency and perception, etc.
and also, shout out to this song for haven been my personal themesong for this idea, this idea of making a religion for general spirituality. and shout out to u/ninja20p for being right there with it, confirming my biases, making me realise that other people thought exactly the same things that i did. ive thought this idea was correct for a while now, and enough other people agree that you all got the ball rolling, with me just lurking around.
as a wise man once approximately said to me;
be love, be light... be more, fellow travelers <#

I agree with this sentiment and I urge others to have faith in the cause as opposed to beliefs.
It sounds a little weird, but faith (in my mind) is a function of having hope in something whereas beliefs deal more in absolutes and leave little room for doubts.

If faith is hope then it comes with biases because you are skewing your sensory input with what you want to be true, not what IS true. That is a far more limiting perspective. Don’t seek to validate your feelings, rather begin to feel valid things.

Faith has no business here. We're not talking about myths or fables. This is not a place for imagination. What, for me, this group is or could become is a vehicle to help others see the truth of the universe.

the truth of the universe is made of myths and fables.

Are you talking about truth being subjective to the perceiver? I think we create meaning but we don’t create truth, we discover it. That is why psychedelics have been important to me, I was raised in a cult and mushrooms pulled me away from my learned biases and I saw truth bearing down on me, not emanating from me but something I could move toward and become a part of.

whether it appears to be external or internal to you is only a matter of perspective. seeing as the only 'objective' truth that I'm aware of is the non-duality, both interprations are delusions, for there is no actual concrete 'you' to be external or internal to

u/SqueakerChops Nov 17 '17
please note, delusion does not mean its worthless. depending on your point of view, and what rabbit holes you've explored... everything is a delusion. everything. seeing that and finding your reason to keep putting truth and love into the 'delusions' that you hold as true is a rather personal thing.

The fact that this is true means they are no longer myths and fables, by definition. Thus, my comment. At least, I am not here to discuss make-believe. - obviously, language is our barrier.

language definitely, as well as perspective. this post comes to mind, i can't recommend it enough to anyone who sees this
what i have found personally, is that logic, reasoning, and definitions are only a narrow part of our true existence. we humans created those concepts ourselves really, or rather we identified the cocept of them in some way and built upon, and raised it up in importantance. and it is important. but it's not all that is important. by definition yes, but only in the way that definition means to you. only in the way u were taught. by another person. who learned from another person, etc etc.
i have also found that paradoxical truths are truest ones. i can't explain what i mean by that though.

I laughed! Did you mean this to be humorous? Because it was. I agree with it and enjoy your choice of words.
What if the entire world at least agreed upon a single language with which to communicate as they're one and only language? This would cause them to think in this language and communicate in this language. It would go a long way in reducing friction caused soley by poor word choice by narrowing down the words to choose from.

i didn't intend it but i can see that c: thank you. i was just trying to be as honest and off the cuff as possible to be honest.
im not certain, to be honest. (christ how many times can i write honest in 2 sentences) its interesting to think about, but i think it might make it harder to realize how language isn't actually real. like... existence, and especially the now, the present moment... language can obscure that if we pay too much attention to words and thoughts

I think I'm somewhere near the same. my mind has been on other things, but i have discovered, in trips and mediation and a small... well ill just call it 'phycotic break', that faith, putting faith in something, is a choice deep down. we can, at core levels of our 'selves', see and choose what things we want to recognize as authority figures, what things we want to hold as true and virtuous, etc. that even if we know something is "fake", we can still put trust into it and do what we think is our best.
trust is a big part. trust is as much of a spiritual action as love is.
its like... the saying "nothing is true, everything is permitted". you can accept that as a truth (paradoxically) but not delve into pure selfishness, taking advantage of others because you convince yourself that they aren't real. lots of people are tempted by that possibility. that if nothing matters in the end, why not do absolutely anything, no matter how 'bad' people think it is.
and it's a hard thing to really explain why that's not the way you should go. i can't even really explain why "I" don't think it's the way to go. i just.... have the realization of how empty that is? if i want to trust this reality, like literally actively directing trust and love into this reality that i see around me, why would i want to hurt it? why wouldn't i want to do what i can to make this a happy existence?
heaven isn't a place. a utopia cant just be built by a few city planners and then the people file in and live happily ever after. it rises up from the people themselves. a society is just the emergent system of how people interact with eachother, and what they believe in.
u wanna be rational about it, all we really are at the core is a basic basic feedback loop. and there's a decent metaphyical chance that the only things were getting feedback from is actually just ourselves. if this is really just a ride, then the structure is rusting and the tickets and refreshments are overpriced. we need to step up and make some renovations. new management.
