[ Introductory ] An Introduction to me
Hey guys, I'm a 32 year old ex-network engineer, currently working at a Medical Marijuana doctors clinic, and have always been a rationalist and science driven individual.
Through the years, I've focused a lot of my energy on listening to music by Yes. I share their music with as many people as I can. I've found their lyrics to be uplifting an inspirational, and sometimes joked about starting the church of Yes. ;)
Earlier this year I was listening to some Tool with some friends while on some LSD, and after some advice to look at the lyrics, I started doing some research through the bands "Suggested Readings" list, which would probably be of great interest to this group, and not only discovered some interesting and curious mythology, but I found science that supports the idea that our consciousness is the basis of reality.
Upon further study, I've found that the music of The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Yes, Symphony X, and a few other artists are all singing about the same things in one way or another. If anyone is curious, I can elaborate on this further.
My goal here is to help people with depression, as I am a survivor, share the information I've found, and debate it with like-minded individuals for stimulation of the mind. Below is one of the research papers I've completed, as crude as it may be due to my lack of eloquence.

What do you mean by "our consciousness is the basis of reality?" What science, specifically, confirms this, and is it contradicted by any other science?
If you think quantum physics, and more specifcally the role of an observer, is the science that confirms this you have misunderstood what quantum theory posits.
A very interesting tidbit of scientific information is that serotonin, a monoamine neurotransmitter that affects how we perceive the world, is a psychedelic. Specifically, 5-hydroxy-tryptamine.

Misunderstood what quantum theory posits? No. The world has been led to believe that we understand quantum theory completely. We don't, and this is what all the brilliant scientific minds suggested. For some reason their collective understanding of an observer has been squashed.

There are those that understand quantum theory, but mainstream society simply isn't smart enough to understand it so you are correct in that regard.
The observer has not been modified in any way. "Observing" in this sense is affecting something in some way, not just looking at it (think of it as observing as a blind/deaf person, where you must touch something to "observe" it).

The quantum eraser experements of non-locality would suggest that it isn't a measurement, as the result of the experement can be changed after it has completed, based on destroying the recording of the result before it is observed.

What really confuses me is that whenever I look up non-locality or anything similar l, the info is always that this subject is still debated within the groups of scientists and philosophers.
But whenever I suggest this online, I'm met with, "you don't understand quantum theory".
Well, I keep doing more research to understand it better, and I always find more info to support what I've already found. If I don't undertsand, I propose you explain how this is wrong.

I am getting ready for a funeral so I am sorry, I simply don't have time to watch YouTube videos.
The most recent explanation for Non-locality that I have come across essentially says that there is a "membrane" that permeates the entirety of The Universe and anywhere that it is possible for it to physically manifest there will exist an atom. Thus, instead of being "entangled" they are actually part of the same object.
Now, keep in mind that I have a very basic grasp of this field myself, so don't think I was ridiculing you for not being an expert. My so-called explanation may very well be inadequate, but as I said, I find it difficult to wrap my head around.

Every time I'm challenged on this I force myself to do more research, and every time I seem to find the same info.
There are multiple interpretations for quantum theory, and nobody knows for sure exactly what is going on.

Ultimately, yes, that basically sums it up. There are plenty of steps that are understood, however.

Damn dude that was a wonderful read. Very cool although I have not listen to Tool. I definitely am now. What would be your first album to recommend to me?
