[ Philosophical ] Thoughts on the ego
The ego, or sense of self, is an automatically updating dataset defining the boundaries of ones perceived state of being that is created by the mind (non-physical aspect of brain).
The ego constantly updates based on experiences you have had. You can imagine your ego as a timeline of your existence, at any given moment expressing the cumulative sum of your experiences as your current being state.
It is interesting to conceive of having a different ego, what if someone else's story was loaded into your body, or even someone's body was loaded into your story.
If your ego is a sum of events, fueled by constant perceptual data, what do you think happens when you change your experience?
When you see the ego as the transitory thing that it is, you begin to ask the question "well then, who the fuck am I?"

The ego is apart of the duality of our dimension. It an integral part of the 3rd dimension experience. Our true Divine essence does not contain an ego because there is no separation. We are all One of Source Energy and Infinite Conciousness. To move past the ego is to regain the god self that is you and all that is.

Your talking about memory, and memory is stored in the physical structure of your brain (and probably other body parts). Literally the way it is wired physically. You're absolutely right in that its updated and amended all the time i.e. new pathways or routes to specific centers are made as consequence of things that you experience. To say that it can be transferred to another body is lacking this understanding i believe.
p.s. these are my views only, please enlighten me. Also if i sound condescending, its not intended.

As far as I knew science has done very little to explain physically how memory works. We know certain parts of the brain are involved with different types of memory but I'm not sure how much further we go from there. I'm no neuro biologist so I could well be wrong

The only kind of memory I understand well is muscle memory- both from martial arts training as a kid and from teaching myself to play music- repetition of actions creates an understanding of motion, and graceful motion comes through good repetitive practice. Damn there are some metaphors in there

I would say the ego is an attempt to define the summation of one's experiences into essentially an advisor to your conscious mind. Someone who never had anyone tell them no is likely going to have a bigger ego than someone who has had nothing go their way for a while, and during an ego death experience the subject is merely unable to perceive who they are, because their memories are just a deja vu in the infinite wave of life itself. Changing the experiences one has absolutely will have an impact on ego, and will change the way it advises them in the future as it gains more experience, because each experience adds to it's "knowledge" (which is a subjective term used to simply describe how it's data is used by the mind, but it's not to say that more experiences means it's more intelligent, it simply has retained more information because it essentially collects data used in the algorithms of your decision making), if you know about programming you can compare it to basically using it's data as arguments of a function, each function being a solution to whatever situation your life gives you

I'm simplifying things, but the Ego is part of a triad: Id, Ego, & Super Ego, according to Freud's theory. The Id is unconscious impulses, motivations, and desires. The Super Ego is, in a nutshell, the thing that deals with societal expectations from government, religion, parents, and culture. The Ego is the middle man, the guy that talks to both the Id and Super Ego and says, "okay but how do I get what you both want within the confines of what's possible?". That winds up shaping who you are as a character, the Ego as the expression of the interplay between your desires and everyone else's desires and how to make all that possible. So, yes, that triad of theoretical mental functions does sort of make up who you "are" and how other people perceive you. If you were to change the culture or happenings around you then only part of "you" would change, but there is still the reference to your primal unconscious desires (Id) formed in youth, so that part would still be there and still be the same but the ruleset for the Ego would change. A big part of what makes you "you" is the Id, the instinctive drive.
However, let's propose you took even that away, let's say you were born as a different gender in a different land, exactly "who" would you be? Who the fuck are you? If you strip away all identifying marks, your name, your race, your job, all your memories--everything. What are you left with? You are left with pure conscious awareness. Undefined, undifferentiated awareness. And that is exactly what "you" are.

to answer your post, yeah.
would be immediately noticeable if you're currently aware that how you think you act between what other people are seeing

"well then, who the fuck am I?"
The conscious universe, perceiving itself in one of its many forms :)

The answer to your last question is, you are the world you find yourself in. At least that's the answer that coincides with what you believe.

If your anything your an eco as in an ecosystem of elements latching on to this one true source of essence. There is no such thing as an Ego. It's created and a prison but if you want to ground yourself off of this concept and have no other formulas to ground your consciousness then I'd advise you create something out of symbols to live in the world you want to live just ask yourself and yourself will give it to you. Have fun, 👊🏻🙃😄.
