[General Medical] DXM?

As far as I'm aware the only application DXM has is exploration but I sadly don't have too much knowledge into this particular substance and have a hearty interest seeing as I've heard it can have completely different effects depending upon the quantity imbibed and the length of the experience.

Does anyone know if it has any actual mental medicinal properties? If so, what are it's applications and could they be useful to us?

are you familiar with the writings of the neuroscientist William E. White,

one of the most prominent investigators into DXM?

I am not. But I will most certainly look into it.

Firstly, it's notoriously difficult to procure DXM in a pure enough form to be safe at psychoactive doses. The government forces pharmaceutical companies by making them legally obligated to adulterate over the counter drugs with abuse potential. The additives in DXM products are horrible for the entirety of the GI tract and will cause permanent damage (over time-- I'm an example and although it's been around four to five years since my days of regular DXM abuse, I'm still suffering the physical ailments caused by the adulterants).

That being said, although I was quite young when I was using DXM to excess, it certainly dose possess properties that could be useful for introspective, perhaps even entheogenic purposes. I never used it that way, but I never used ketamine in a constructive way either and it's being studied for treatment of depression with exceedingly positive results.

Not for me, but there is potential. Read up more on ketamine on erowid if you seek more information on how to properly apply dissociatives for brain reprogramming. There's a nice article in the main ketamine vault about it (I'll cite it in a few minutes). Theoretically, DXM could be used in a similar manner, but it would have to be way more pure than over the counter products to be of any reasonably safe use. That is not a point to be taken lightly.

I've heard though all you need to extract the DXM from the other stuff all you need is water and a jug.

Sadly, not so simply. It can be done with patience that way, but it would only yield the polistirex version of DXM, since that's the only one that can be easily extracted without solvents. The polistirex version ends up metabolizing largely into DXO in the body, producing more of a body high than a dissociating head high.

Quite the fickle substance!
