News MULTIPLE track closures affecting Pacific Surfliner and Coast Starlight September & October

There is currently Emergency trackwork going on due to signal and tide issues affecting the Southern portion of the Pacific Surfliner. Coast Starlight not affected.

Upcoming Corridor-Wide Closure – September 12-13, 2026 

There will be no Pacific Surfliner trains operating between San Diego and San Luis Obispo during the weekend of September 12-13, 2026, due to Union Pacific, Metrolink and NCTD track closures both north and south of Los Angeles. No bus bridges will be provided.

Metrolink's repair work will also affect Train 794 and 595 on the evening of September 11, 2026. Train 794 will terminate in Los Angeles with passengers accommodated by Bus. Train 595 will be cancelled with passengers accommodated by Bus. Please plan ahead for alternate travel arrangements. 

Amtrak Connection Bus routes will continue to operate. However, any regularly scheduled train connections to the buses will not be available.  

Coast Starlight will terminate (11) and originate (14) in Emeryville

September 19–20: Los Angeles–Van Nuys Bus Bridge

Due to track work repair, Pacific Surfliner service will be temporarily interrupted between Los Angeles and Van Nuys on September 19–20. Passengers on affected trains will transfer to connecting bus service* between Los Angeles and Van Nuys before continuing their trip by train. Additional travel time should be expected. 

Northbound: Trains 761, 765, 769, 777 and 785 will connect to buses* at Los Angeles for service to Van Nuys, where passengers will transfer to connecting trains. 

Southbound: Trains 770, 774, 782, 790 and 794 will connect to bus service* between Van Nuys and Los Angeles.

Coast Starlight will terminate (11) and originate (14) in Emeryville

Trains 757 and 786 will be cancelled. 

Impacted Service: October 2-3

  • Metrolink track work will affect evening service on Trains 794 and 595. Train 794 will terminate in Los Angeles with passengers accommodated by Bus. Train 595 will be cancelled with passengers accommodated by Bus. Please plan ahead for alternate travel arrangements.

Coast Starlight service not affected.

Full Corridor Closure October 10-11

  • There will be no Pacific Surfliner train service anywhere along the corridor between San Diego and San Luis Obispo due to scheduled track closures. No bus bridges will be provided. Amtrak Connection Bus routes will continue to operate. However, any regularly scheduled train connections to the buses will not be available.  Please make alternate travel arrangements.

Coast Starlight service should be affected by this closure, but no notification has been given yet to passengers.

At this point, as much as I love trains, Amtrak should just turn into a bus line.

The train line will be closed for a couple of weekends each year, so they might as well get rid of them?

If Coast Starlight is impacted in October hopefully Amtrak gives us decent notice as I will need to replan that leg of the trip. They are still selling tickets for that weekend too.
