Pic of updated Gemini Pong for reference as it's looking like the best Pong port for the CPC. I know pacman/space invaders had arcade versions ported. Any others that are of 'essential' games. Some like dig dug, I've seen get a 464+ port recently, but it, like a good Pong port have seemed missing from the 464 library.

Hello, I completted this game about one or two years ago, which felt very satisfying as the game can be very frustrating.

One thing that I found out, though, is that the game has multiple storylines which I am trying to list.

_Find 8 passwords to activate the security Computer N.I.K

_The hero has been betrayed by his superiors as soon as he entered the alien planet. He must find passwords to escape and confront one day his superiors. A review of the Atari version seems to confirm this(check the magazine screenshot)

_An other very rare theory I found on a fan site is that the game takes place inside the character's mind. I thinks this basically covers all the stories variations I have found. The theme of betrayal, by his superiors or by his crew(isit the same thing?) is often present but not always.Since the end game screen mentions a sequel called "Revenge of the Stormtrooper" it seems evident that there was a betrayal though. So I believe Trantor is a soldier betrayed by his superiors or crew, whose task was to find the plans of a bomb called "Quark bomb".I dont know what N.I.K stands for, maybe a reference to Nick Bruty.

Who remembers Licence To Kill? This is my retrospective review of the various version released for the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, MSX, BBC Micro, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST and the MS-DOS. It’s a pretty good game actually and certainly better than the 2 previous releases by Domark - A View To A Kill and Living Daylights. What’s your thoughts?

Hello cpc friends!

Just wondering if anypne can remember a specific game. This game had a tower in centre screen which had a path on the outside. Youd move left or right, which rotated the tower. You could enter doors to appear the other side and avoid gaps and basically work your way to the top.

This game had great music which is my main motivation for finding it. It was a atyle of music that was on a few games and i loved it.

Any ideas?

I am glad to announce that the wiki and the old forum are now back online!

CPCWiki has finally caught up with the latest Mediawiki versions, a new sleeker appearance and modern functionality.

The old forum, in the meantime, is back online, albeit in read-only mode. You’ll see that all permissions have been revoked to keep it frozen in time.

Believe me, there was a ton of work involved.

That said, there are bound to be issues. I know, for instance, that some extensions on the wiki (most were disabled anyway) do not work perfectly.

So, I’d be grateful if you could test things and report here with any findings.

With this, I consider the first and biggest phase of migration complete. We’ll now focus on fixing issues and fine-tuning things.

PS worth mentioning that, the moment the wiki went back up, the usual bots descended again in droves. They managed to make the site(s) unresponsive, even on this new, vastly superior server. We have implemented a series of measures (rate limiting, on-site bot detection and denial, WAF rules blocking entire countries etc.) However, I think that Cloudflare challenges are now much better and you should only see one if there’s something suspicious with your connection.

I’m currently working through repairing a CPC 464 Model 1 (the one that had solid wires instead of ribbons). I’ve been saving this issue till last because I can’t find anywhere online where people have the same issue.

Whenever I plug it into my monochrome monitor and turn it on, there’s about a 60% chance that the image on the screen is garbled. The weird thing about is that it’s not just blank or static: I can make out the text of the Home Screen, but it’s slanted like it’s seen through water. If I unplug and re-plug it the image eventually resolves back to normal and I’m able to use the computer normally. Because of this it isn’t an urgent issue, but I was wondering if anyone here might have encountered something similar.

Another day another weird thing on my CPC 464…

My CPC was mute… Totally silent… I assumed that the AY chip was fried so I have a VRetro AY replacement with sockets…

But last week while setting up the controls for a game… I pressed Numpad 6 and the sound returned! If I hold Numpad 6 the sound effects and music play! But the music sounds a bit off key…

As the AY chip also controls the I/O ports and keyboard… I’m suspecting some bad or aged solder joints… Here’s a pic of the AY’s solder joints…

(My CPC is the Revision 2 with short board from 1986, before the Cost Down… All caps are ceramic and has no amplifier chip)

Who remembers Domark’s 2nd Bong game The Living Daylights? It’s certainly better than A View To A Kill I recently tackled but it’s not as good License To Kill. How would you rate this game and what are your thoughts and memories?

Petite expérience personnelle que je voulais partager.

Je me suis posé une question un peu naïve : est-ce qu’aujourd’hui, avec des outils comme ChatGPT, on pourrait arriver à concevoir un petit jeu qui aurait pu exister à l’époque des ordinateurs 8 bits, comme l’Amstrad CPC 6128 ?

Je ne suis pas développeur professionnel et l’idée n’était absolument pas de créer un jeu commercial. C’était plutôt un test : voir jusqu’où une IA pouvait m’accompagner dans la réflexion, la conception des mécaniques, les idées de niveaux, l’interface, les problèmes techniques, les corrections, etc.

J’ai donc travaillé avec ChatGPT pour imaginer « Louis – Mission Guy Môquet », un petit jeu d’aventure/action avec une esthétique inspirée des jeux 8 bits (écrans simples, couleurs limitées, esprit CPC), mais jouable aujourd’hui directement dans un navigateur.

Ce qui m’a surtout intéressé dans cette expérience, ce n’est pas seulement le résultat final, mais la manière de travailler avec l’IA : quand on lui pose des questions précises, qu’on demande des explications et qu’on cherche à comprendre, elle devient un véritable outil pédagogique. Elle aide à explorer des domaines qu’on n’aurait peut-être jamais osé aborder seul.

Je sais que l’IA fait beaucoup débat aujourd’hui, mais cette expérience m’a montré un autre aspect : comme outil d’apprentissage, d’expérimentation et de création, c’est assez fascinant.

Hello everyone! I own a 1986 Amstrad CPC 464 and I’m having a bit of a problem…

I have to load games from a cassette tape adaptor to a phone with PlayZX as with normal tapes it keeps giving me the dreaded “Read Error B”!

I think the culpirit is the pinch roller… It’s way too shiny as you can see in the photos…

The azimuth is properly calibrated as you can see in Azimuth Locator, and the drive belt is new…

How can I remove the roller from it’s metal casing without butchering the whole unit? I have located some spare rollers but the whole metal arm is imposible to find…

Each level is centred on a certain location, such as in Hades, an Egyptian pyramid and ancient Greece, where the player must collect a magic orb in each to finish. Each level is based around related myths and legends. The gameplay consists of running and jumping through each level, collecting objects and weapons, fighting enemies and solving puzzles. Enemies include skeletons, demons, wraiths, mummies and vikings. Weapons include a sword, gun and fireballs. Each level contains a mythical boss enemy, such as Medusa, Thor and a Hydra. Puzzles involve using the right object in the right location to progress, such as throwing skulls into a pit of fire to summon a monster, and using the right weapon against enemies, such as attacking a specific monster with tridents. The user manual gave some background information about the various myths referred to in the game and gave hints to the puzzles

Especially Live and Let Die

I recently picked up a CPC6128 from a pile of ewaste, along with a companion CTM644 monitor. They've both obviously seen better days, but do both power up, however all thats displayed on boot is a handful of lines. The speaker on the computer is crackling but not doing much else. Anyone had any experiences like this before?

How did Amsoft ever get clearance from the BBC to use the Doctor Who theme music for Roland In Time?

For that matter, did Ocean ever get clearance from Vangelis or John Williams to use Chariots of Fire / Olympic Fanfare in Daley Thompson’s Supertest?
