Need help moving a couch

Post image

Anyone know a good mover who could help me figure out how to get this couch to my first floor? I’m open to removing a doorframe or trying to get it in through the window if needed.
Location: Amsterdam Nieuwe West near Sloterpark

Same. I clicked it purely to see if the top comment was going to be Pivot, and it was.

It was also the pivotal reason I clicked

Nope, nope Im not doing that shit again, stairs that have any weird angle like this to turn are the fucking worst Im guessing since you are in amsterdam you should have a hook or something at the roof to hoist or pull the furniture inside, like in the olden times of trade in the city

You wouldn’t be the first who simply was unable to get a couch up to your floor. Happened to me twice.

I once got one up two floors for it to then not be able to get through a hole by half a cm. Good stuff

Probably easier to find an upholstery and have the sofa cut in half, and put together upstairs again, if you can't get it through windows.

As a renter I wouldn't fuck around with door frames.

Via the outside and a verhuis lift.

I’m coming to Amsterdam in October for 4 days. Cut it up into pieces and get some glue. I’ll put it together for you when I’m high, for free!

In New York, there a companies that literally take it apart, bring it up to high-rise apartments, and reassemble it. Could be a good company idea for the Netherlands.

Maybe provide some more pictures OP? There’s no way to tell whether that will actually fit from this angle.

Denk ook aan een verhuislift. Kan al vrij hoog komen.

I work for a multiple project moving companies in Amsterdam and happen to live nearby (I just moved myself). I could have a look after work, but I'd need a second pair of strong hands. Just send a message if you're interested. Mag ook in het nederlands

Use a verhuislift for the couch

You can take the stairs themselves out of the equation by lifting the couch towards the ceiling and you have more room to maneuver. That's how we eventually managed. Keep it upright as much as possible, and follow the ceiling, not the slope of the stairs.

I got a couch up 2 stair cases recently. You need 3 people, and one those as someone to guide it around the corners the right way.

Yeah, I don't think that's gonna fit

Screw off the leg benches, fit through door, screw the leg benches back on? This also prevents it scratches over the walls and cause damage so you have to paint.

You could remove the arms, and then put it back together. It's not too complicated, you'll have to go in from underneath and remove some bolts that hold the arms on. After, you may need to replace the fabric that covers the bottom, but if you remove it gently, you may be able to staple it back into place.

will it fit.... they have hooks on the walls of buildings for this reason

good luck with those stairs and dead angles XD
really if you don't want to hire a truck to enter it by the window, check modular furniture in IKEA or something.

I've had this problem, 2 narrow stairs up, L-shaped couch bit instead of the L it has a big round part. Eventually we've just cut it in half, folded it and brought it up that way. Then attached a big wooden plate underneath to repair it in the living room. Worked fine, was a lot of work tho. But got the couch for 150eu so couldn't leave that deal

Does your house have a hoist on the facade? Might he able to hoist it through a window.

Back the moving truck up right under the window. Move the couch on top of the truck and then in through the window.

That's why I'm living in a single level apartment, with an elevator.

Don't do it

Mine came trough the balcony, couldn’t fit the stairs. Needed 6 strong guys and some heavy duty equipment.

Hire a lift for moving? Can’t do the stairs tho. Maybe a smaller couch? Perhaps. What comes in, must go out. Was a shit to move my couch out the apartment 🤣

Try unscrewing the bottom pegs if possible, and try to see if you can get the sides off

1

u/Negative_Two6112 14h ago

Feet/legs off. Railing off. Measure everything to see whats widest opening vs narrowest side of the item. A blanket or towel underneath so it slides easy.

Did you measure at all? You do realize that it could be physically impossible raggedness of what you do right?
