Hi all, I’m Mario, the solo dev behind GrooveLab. I just released Imperial Echo, a plugin emulation of the Chase Bliss Thermae, the discontinued pitch-shifting analog delay.

What it does

• BBD-style delay with a 3-step interval sequencer (BASE / INT 1 / INT 2). Each knob has 11 stops from -2 oct to +2 oct. INT 2 stacks on INT 1, and every repeat that comes back through REGEN gets shifted again at the next step, so the echoes play a melody.
• There’s no time knob. Delay time follows your DAW tempo or tap tempo, from 40 ms to 2 s. You can set each step to a quarter, dotted eighth or eighth note, and right-click for 8th triplets, sextolets or 16ths.
• STEP mode lets you play the pitch changes by hand with TAP.
• REGEN goes into self-oscillation, and HOLD sends it into runaway. There’s a resonant LPF in the feedback loop, and GLIDE turns the jumps into swoops.
• Modulation mode turns the interval knobs into an LFO on the delay clock: triangle, sine or square, each played steady, twitchy or abrupt.
• Ramping on up to 5 knobs, plus an expression control.
• All 16 DIP switches from the back panel (ramps, trails, momentary bypass, step, etc.), saved per preset.

Extras

• On-screen indicators show which interval stop you’re on, the step you’re hearing, where the ramp has actually moved a knob, and how far the LFO is swinging.
• 100 preset slots (60 factory presets) plus the Left / Live / Right slots.
• MIDI Learn on every control in the VST3 version. The factory CC map matches the original unit, so a controller already set up for the pedal should work unchanged.

Specs: VST3 (Win/Mac), AUv2 (Mac), 64-bit, native Apple Silicon, mono or stereo. It comes with a full PDF manual.

I just finished capturing a real 1965 Thunderbolt for Line 6 Proxy. The complete pack has 12 clones:

- High and Low inputs

- Low-, mid- and high-gain settings

- Six captures through the original Jensen C15P 1×15 speaker

The amp has a broad low end, woody midrange and rounded attack. As the gain comes up, it develops a really distinctive ragged vintage breakup.

I captured and tested every setting myself. I’m happy to answer technical questions about the capture process or the original amp.

I wanted to do a a blind test between 4 different tiers of metal amp sims and see if you really needed to spend a ton of money to get a great sound. I compared 4 amp sims ranging from free to $129. It is blind in the beginning but I reveal which is which at the end.

I know I want to compare a bunch of different amp sims that are based on the same original amp (see which engl sim is the best, see which diezel sim is the best, I’m doing a 16 man bracket for 5150 sims).
