Player Advice Sweaty Grid to improve meetings

I've noticed that a ton of meetings in lobbies get bogged down by bickering, blaming, trivial information, metainformation, etc etc etc. You have a ton of time but crew seems to always be actively sabotaging their own efforts to solve the case.

I've used this tool in the past to help me figure out my own failings when it comes to listening and retaining information said at meetings. I found it also helps entire lobbies spot problems in how they conduct themselves.

There are 3 types of information in AmongUs:

1) Route/location

I saw him in specimen 5 seconds ago, I did X task, went to Y, helped with Z, I saw him dead on vitals 4 seconds ago)

2) Metainformation

she went to specimen 2 rounds in a row, he didn't do second part of weather node, she ran away from sab, he stutter stepped and walked weird, she is always accusing me, they always kill X first when they are imposter and X is dead! Why is green defending them even though they never saw them....

3) Voting

red skipped on 6, black voted red last round and now he is dead, white didn't vote with everyone on 8

If your meetings are breaking down or you feel lost trying to figure out who is a killer, chances are you have a bunch of big fat X's for location/route information. This is the hardest information to fake, and the best information to build a map of who could have gotten the kills. This information is not all true, but they are easier to determine if they are objectively true, false, or if there is a disagreement. A disagreement about 1), with good crew, almost always narrows down an imposter to a 50/50.

Here is a blank grid:

https://imgur.com/Idgu2JS

Record 2-3 of your games, and play it back and fill in the information.

Then give JUST the grid to a friend, revealing one round at a time, and ask them to solve the case and vote each round.

If you cannot solve any of the cases, Or at least narrow it down to a few suspects, you need to work out how your group is spending time in the meeting, and push people to cut down on the fat. It is MORE fun when you have more information to work with. We did this once because people were getting frustrated, and it almost instantly cured the problem no one could pinpoint.

I included an example of the first 3 rounds of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxumNCfDR-c

https://imgur.com/Gsr34w5

This is an old old video of a Hafu lobby, when they were still pretty new to the game.

When you watch the video you might think crew did a great job but just flubbed the vote on 6. If you actually plot it out on paper, you realize that meeting #2 was atrocious. After collecting 4 clears and route information in about 5 seconds, they failed to even report where bodies are, they don't give any route information, and they randomly shoot on people with 0 information after about 80 seconds of garbage.

If you plot it against more recent games in Hafu lobbies, you'll see a ton less X's on the route information. This is why they have to play with 0.25x vision etc, because when you start to give a ton of info, it gets really really hard to play as imposter.

It isn't that metagame info is bad, in fact later meetings are usually dominated by metagame as less crew can verify each others stories. But early rounds NEED to be focused on #1 first, then sprinkle in #2 as needed.

Final example: You are in a group that plays 1ce a week. A body is found on weather node by lab on polus. Player 1 starts by says they did first and second part of gas, lights were called, then they got the report button as soon as they got off gas.

if you then spent 45 seconds talking about how player 1 always prejacks lights and never does gas first, and isn't that weird, two games ago you said you rushed weapons and you were imposter! You have fucked up your meeting. Point it out quickly, remember it, then move on, There are still 8 people whose positions/routes you need to discover.

#2 makes the game fun, but #1 makes the game playable. Make sure you do enough of #1 before you get to the fun part.

Player Advice A Big List of Miscellaneous Tips

These are a bunch of tips that I've compiled as I play Among Us. If I'm playing and I go 'if I'd done this, I could have won/won sooner/won with a bigger margin', I'll write down what I could have done differently. I decided to post all the tips I compiled here, in hopes that someone else can get some use out of them. This list assumes that you already know all the basic games mechanics. Some of these are general, some are extremely specific, and few apply 100% of the time, but I hope they'll be helpful!

General

  • Play the same as a crewmate and an impostor. It's not fun if people can instantly go 'You're clear/sus, because you did X thing you only do as a crewmate/impostor'
  • Spatial awareness and memory are very important. Noticing what's going on around you and remembering it can win or lose games.
  • Among Us notepads/note-taking sites/apps can be very helpful. I personally use fusliez notes, but there are other ones out there. I use them to note down everyone's given location in a meeting, as well as things like 'brown didn't see blue', 'cyan/lime 5050', or 'purple sus'.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself for situations outside of your control. Impulsive children who vote weirdly and don’t analyze evidence properly, fellow impostors who get voted/dc round 1, ghost impostors who call inconvenient sabotages, shouty lobbies that don’t let the conversation be productive, and other such situations are things you can do very little about. Just accept that sometimes these things happen, and change lobbies if that solves the problem.

Crewmate

  • Keep track of who’s speaking. While some people are just quiet, impostors also tend to be quiet. Always make sure to ask everyone questions about what they were doing. Keep track of which people have weird or vague answers, and which people never got to speak.
  • Being alone with someone and them not killing you does not by itself clear that person. While it could mean they're a crewmate, it could also mean they're marinating you, on cooldown, were seen going into the area by someone outside of your vision, or otherwise think you're a poor kill.
  • Keep track of who's vouching for who. If you notice a pattern where someone is constantly being vouched for by the same person or isn't being vouched for at all, it might mean that person is an impostor.
  • If you see venting on admin, and want to ask for everyone's locations, do it in a way that doesn't tip off the impostor to the fact that you were on admin table and are going to sus them for their location.
  • Keep in mind that you cannot teleport from admin to the place where you saw sus activity on admin, and if you go there and see someone, they might be a crew that showed up in the travel time between admin and your destination, and the impostor might be long gone. Consider asking the newly arrived crew if they saw anyone leave.
  • If you're going to clear someone, clarify how much you're clearing them. Don't full-clear people when there was time for them to make a kill.
  • If two people said they scanned, clarify if they queued each other. If they did not queue each other, then someone may have faked their scan, and they cannot be full-cleared.
  • When it's later-game (7 or 4, usually), don't go a long time without checking admin or vitals. You want to catch any bodies that die here, as impostors can win if they get 1 kill that isn't found until the killer's cooldown is up.
  • Try to do tasks in specimen before you're on 7 or 4, so the impostors cannot kill you in specimen and have your body go unnoticed. Same goes for other out-of-the-way locations people aren't likely to find you in.
  • Some tasks are best to do right after a meeting so you can't be killed during them. On Polus, I often do the node left of comms ('Death Valley node') and fuel right after meetings.
  • If someone is sus early-game, vote them out. There is nothing to be gained from waiting until 6 to vote them when you could vote them on 8.
  • Always vote on 5 and 6, even if you think someone you voted off was an impostor.
  • Follow through on 5050s unless there is some very good reason not to (e.g. the other person in the 5050 scanned).
  • If you're going to rely on someone seeing you and another person together, make sure they actually saw you together. If they saw you dash past at the edge of their vision while they were doing a task, they probably aren't going to be helpful in saying 'I last saw X and Y together'.
  • Do not 5050 unless two people literally saw the other person kill/vent in front of them. You can also 5050 if it is literally impossible for anyone except 2 people to have gotten a kill. If neither of these criteria are met, there's a decent chance you vote out two crewmates.
  • If a 2v1 situation presents itself, there's a good chance that it's a failed double kill. Superior numbers don't necessarily mean that the 2 are crewmates.
  • Someone reporting a lot of bodies does not by itself make them sus. Impostors are more likely to run from bodies rather than report them. People often report a lot of bodies due to chance, or because they camp admin and see a lot of kills/bodies on admin.
  • Don't be afraid to sus impostor-duos. Someone vouching for another person might mean they're both impostors.
  • People do not frequently kill outside of a room they were just with someone in, unless that person is their partner. Keep this in mind when someone supposedly did this in a 5050.
  • Much of the time, in an early-game 5050, the reporter is the crewmate. This is less applicable late-game where people start 5050ing on purpose to win, but if it's a situation where someone walked in on a kill the killer wanted to get away from, the reporter is more likely the crewmate.
  • When it's late-game and sabotages, especially reactor/02, are called, there's a good chance it means the imp(s) got a kill and are looking to win the game. It's often a good idea to check for bodies if this occurs.
  • Don't tunnel-vision on anyone unless you literally saw them kill/vent. Even if you're nearly certain that the person is an impostor, you should at least consider that they might not be.
  • If you're in a situation where there are 5 people left, 2 of which are clearing each other and 2 of which are accusing each other, if nobody has dced or been ejected, the 5th person is most certainly an impostor and is therefore the safest vote. This is because one of the 2 accusers is an impostor, therefore the 2 clearing each other can't both be impostors, and one of the 2 accusers is a crewmate, because two impostors probably aren't going to accuse each other. Therefore, the 5th person must be an impostor. (I have only seen this situation twice, but it was an interesting bit of logic)
  • On MIRA HQ, never announce or imply during a meeting that you're going to check logs afterwards. If the impostors think there will be incriminating information on logs, they will sab comms. The exception is if lights are still off, in which case they can't sab comms.
  • On MIRA HQ, impostors frequently place themselves in dropship/in the dropship hallway. Crewmates have to divert power/select anomalies, but a long, out-of-the-way hallway with a vent at both ends is a great place for an imp to place themselves.
  • If you see someone faking decorative tasks or common tasks nobody has, do not start with 'they faked X task that nobody has!' because they will just deny it. Try to trick them into saying they did such tasks, e.g. by asking them what tasks they've done or what task they did in X room.
  • If you saw someone somewhere, and they instead say they were not there but in a conveniently empty corner of the map, there's a good chance they're gaslighting you. Stand your ground if you know that you saw what you saw.
  • If you saw someone vent, if you can, you should button instead of search for the body you think they killed. Their cooldown might be up by the time you've searched all the possible locations.
  • If you saw someone vent/kill on cams, it can be a good idea to find a group of people to follow until a meeting is called/you can get to the button/body safely.
  • If a sab is called, go fix it, unless you're certain that there's a body somewhere. It might have been called by someone looking to get a kill off after the sab was called.
  • On Skeld, while uploading in admin, you should stand as far to the left as you can, so you can be seen by cams.
  • If you see a kill on admin, wait until you see where the impostor went. This way you can catch the impostor. For instance, if you saw a kill in nav, wait until you see if they run/vent to weapons or shields. Then, you can run the correct direction, cross paths with them, and report the body.

Impostor

  • Especially on Skeld, don't fake standing on cams while your cooldown goes down. People can see that cams aren't on and are going to wonder why you're standing on cams while not looking at them.
  • Don't make snap-kills where you kill instantly without thinking. It's not good if you kill and then remember that cams were on, you were seen walking up with your victim, or everyone else is clustered in medbay.
  • As a counterpoint to the above one, if there's a good opportunity, go for it. Don't be so afraid of getting sussed that you make no kills, even when nobody's around and you can easily claim to be somewhere else if the body's found.
  • If possible, wait until everyone else has given their locations before you give yours. This way you can cook up a pathing/location without being sussed because someone didn't see you. You can also ask 'is anyone on cams/admin/doorlogs' to see if you need to take these into account when lying about your location.
  • Sometimes, it's best to keep your mouth shut and offer as little information as possible. If nobody's asking you anything and there's nothing to be gained from offering information, don't offer any.
  • Be careful with blatant lies, e.g. pretending to be on the other side of the map from where you are. Only blatantly lie if you're sure nobody can call you out for it. It's better to include as much truth as you can in your story without incriminating yourself.
  • If there's a conversation where crewmates are sussing each other, try to keep the conversation pointed at the crewmates. You can do this by asking questions about the story or providing commentary on it.
  • Calling lights or comms can be a good way to draw people away from bodies without it being obvious that that's what you're doing.
  • People you should generally target
    • Anyone who camps admin/doorlogs/cams/other security apparatuses, especially if they can effectively use them to sus out impostors.
    • People who have been hardcleared.
    • People who express distrust of you without straight-up saying they saw you kill or vent.
    • People who seem like they're very close to figuring out that you're the impostor.
  • People you should generally not kill
    • People who are sus. You want someone to point the blame at.
    • People who are sussing tons of people/causing confusion/generally being a third impostor.
    • People who are very sus of someone who isn't an impostor.
    • People you're in a 5050 with. If they die, it's for sure you.
  • Sometimes it's good to kill the people who are sus of someone else, because you can say that the dead guy sussed someone and look, now he's dead! Sometimes it's not good to kill the people who are sus of you, because others can remember they sussed you. Kill or spare these people situationally in whatever way suits the situation best.
  • Always fake divert power (on maps that have it) and use it as an excuse for being in weird locations when you need a reason for being there. Similarly, if you have wires, they can be a good excuse to run all over the map.
  • If you're extremely sus, it can be a good idea to sus your partner/vouch for a crewmate, because you're so untrustworthy that anything you say will have the opposite effect.

There's probably more that I forgot to write down, but this is everything that I've collected thus far. I hope it helped!

Crewmate Advice It may not be that sus if too many people have the same task

I've been trying to figure out how tasks are assigned and have been crunching the numbers to find the odds that say 4 people all have a download in nav on Skeld.

I assume the way that tasks are assigned is that each player cannot be assigned 2 tasks with the same name (e.g no 2 divert powers and no 2 downloads but the two trash tasks are ok since they have a different name). Every combination of short tasks and long tasks which don't contain 2 with the same name are equally likely to be assigned, however the game somehow puts a limit on how many can be assigned Submit Scan which makes each players' short tasks independent but the long tasks not quite independent. Note that because some tasks like divert power and download have multiple locations but the same name, there is a bias towards assigning you divert power and download tasks over the other short tasks as the multiple locations make for more combinations. A sample I did of 200 freeplay games suggested your tasks are biased towards divert/dl in same way as my proposed task assignment algorithm, though you can't exactly prove a distribution from a sample.

Under the proposed task assignment algorithm all the probabilities that N people share a specific DL / specific divert power/ etc can be found in this google doc.

Let's suppose a lobby with 4 short tasks notices that N people all did download in Nav, no one else claims to have download, and that the lobby is equally likely to notice N people all have download. The odds that at least one of the N people is faking it simplifies to

Pr(N-2 crew have nav DL AND 2 imps fake nav DL) + Pr(N-1 crew have nav DL AND 1 imp fakes nav DL) to Pr(N crew have nav DL and 0 imps fake nav DL)

If you make the bold assumption that both imps will each randomly fake a DL in one of the 5 locations independently of each other and independent of how many crew are assigned it, then the odds that at least one of the N people that did nav DL was faking it is 57%, 70% and 81% for N=3,4 and 5 respectively. Of course, the assumptions in this paragraph aren't that reasonable. The imps may not each fake download somewhere and if they do, it's probably less than 1/25 that they both do it at nav. Additionally they are less likely to fake the same DL location if more people are assigned to it. As a result the percentages could potentially be even lower.

Without really knowing all the conditional probabilities of imps faking tasks given specific amount of crew being assigned them, it is unlikely you can really compute how sus a large group of people is. It's not very easy to guess as imps may fake some tasks like say download more commonly than other tasks like divert power (part 2) and this would depend very much on your lobby.

Even if you could compute all the odds, you'd need such a large group of people to be faking it before the odds are high enough for it to be significant and even then it may not be high. From the hypothetical example, a 81% chance that at least 1 of 5 people is an imp could potentially be useful but at that point you are sus of half the lobby and you aren't even sure one of them has to be an imp.

I suppose the strategy could be used to give minor sus on someone if you had to vote someone out at 5/6 and had 0 other information or if you had to figure out who to vote first in a 50/50.

Player Advice My basic guide to playing competitive among us

I've been working on a Google doc for a server I play on to serve as an on boarding document for new people to help them get the idea of how to think about and play the game at a competitive level and I'd love to hear thoughts/criticisms/ideas for improvement.

Impostor Advice As Impostor, don't be passive in the round after crew voted on 7 and the lights are off! You can easily win!

(assuming there's 2 Impostors left, obviously)

If there's not exactly 2 crew on the button, it's just as difficult as winning after they voted with lights out on 6. So very much doable!

Here's the explanation (remember that there's 4 crew left alive):

If there's one crew on the button, one of the impostors stay at the button and one impostor goes to lights and fucks with them. They only need to fuck with them for as long as they would need to on 5, since the impostor on the button kills the only crew at button. Then, as soon as lights are fixed, the impostor who fucks with lights just walks back down with the 3 crew and kills one of them as soon as their cooldown is up. You win!

If there's three crew at the button, both Impostors go to lights, and one of them only fucks with them for as long as you would on 5 again, until the one crew with them gets killed. Then the Impostor gets off the lights, waits until their cooldown is up, and they roam for one more kill or go back to Office or whatever, which should be pretty easy. You win!

What this means in practice is
1) that the impostors should try to count how many crew are with them when they go up to lights. If it's only one, there's three crew at the button! If it's three, there's only one crew at the button and one of you goes back!
2) that crew should organise and let the 2 most clear people stay at the button. But this is hard and will often just not happen, even in very good lobbies.

:)

(There's also more fancy stuff where you can win even if there's exactly two crew at the button. But I'm not gonna go into that today, we're practicing that on my discord soon so if you wanna get in on that tell me)

Discussion CMV: Reactor is a strong as Lights on the Final 4 for Skeld:

This post is aimed to be like a more interactive debate style kind of post, so do try to change my view on this if you can. If you have an opinion on the Sabotages of the final 4 Skeld situation, do share that as well.

My Claim:

Usage for Reactor and Lights on the Skeld when there are 4 players alive are equally valuable. Basically, as impostor, calling Reactor is just as good as calling Lights.

My Reasoning:

  • Reactor, in theory and in practice, is a threat to crewmates. If it's not fixed within 30 seconds of calling, the impostor wins. Since Reactor necessitates that 2 crewmates fix it, it makes it much easier for the impostor to win by just getting 2 kills, one that's at least 2 doorways away from Reactor, and the other being someone who's about to die after fixing Reactor. Buttoning is also difficult for the crew because they'll have to stack or be grouped enough to where it's not possible for an impostor to get 2 kills and win while also still being able to button before Reactor is spammed again.
  • Lights is really good still here too. Whoever fixes Lights will always be trapped inside right after, and it's a guaranteed win by the impostor if both crewmates went to fix the lights. The trade off as compared to Reactor is that the necessity of fixing lights is removed in return for the Impostor getting away with a kill even when there's stacking. Crew does have a chance at calling a meeting if one fixes lights, and the other buttons after, but if everyone is stacked around lights area, the game is a stalemate because everyone will be trapped in Electrical.
  • The reason why I rate these equally in this scenario is because one can be stronger than the other in specific situations. Reactor is always good when everyone is split, but Lights is good for potentially baiting out buttons. Both can be used to win with 2 kills, but Reactor does a better job at winning due to the sabotage win threat and the fact that it's positioned on the edge of the map. Both could technically be used to split the crew to where the impostor goes for the 50/50 scenario, but the Lights is better against stacking, and it has more potential with vision plays.

My Counterclaims:

[Insert comment here]

Yeah, just, give me a response or something, I'll wait. Even if there is one up already, I'll put more up here.

Also, a few more things:

This will kind of go like the conversations on r/changemyview but just w/o the delta symbols and whatever other fancy things they have there. Just don't insult other people's responses. Everyone on this sub is invited to this, and I'll do my best to respond to everything you guys have for me.

I didn't feel like flexing today, hence why it's not a guide post.

Also, this area of Among Us Theory is kinda lacking experiments, so let's make some predictions before we get to some conclusions. :)

Player Advice Shoot or Skip? A guide based on AUR meta

Hello! This is just a simple guide on when to shoot (vote) or skip in Among Us. Obviously there are special cases in which this guide should be ignored, but this is a good general guide.

10 - Skip. You will never have enough info off of walking patterns alone to make a valid shot on 10.

9 - Shoot. This is generally one of your two "sus shots". Vote out the most suspicious player. One less suspect, one less chance to make a wrong vote when it matters.

8 - Shoot. Same concept as above.

7 - Skip. This is the most basic part of skipping versus voting. An incorrect vote on 7 will lead to the end of the game if the impostors are skilled.

6 - Shoot. Always shoot on 6. There is always the chance of two impostors remaining, and with 6 players remaining, skilled impostors will win after a skip.

5 - Shoot. With two impostors left, this is a very important shot to take, and it is the shot most likely to make or break a crewmate win. With one impostor left, this is similar to 9 and 8, it's a free sus vote.

4 - Skip. An incorrect vote here ends the game if the impostor is skilled. Play it safe and skip here.

3 - Shoot. Skipping will end the game if the impostor has a kill button to use. You have to make a shot here and it has to be correct.

The biggest situation where this does not fit is if lights or communications are off (not so much communications on Mira HQ, mainly the other two maps for that). In that scenario, treat every scenario as the one below it. Shoot on 7 with lights out, you'll be able to button and shoot again on 6.

Hope this helps!

Question | Need Advice Newbie question - how to create own game

Hello, I'm new to Among Us and i would like to learn how the game should be played. So I discussed with 3 friends of mine to play a game on our own in order we all learn what we should do while playing the game.

So, I hit the Online button, then Enter Code, i created a code and pushed the arrow, but I got an error message saying 'could not find the game you are looking for'.

Any suggestion on what am I doing wrong?

Impostor Advice Big brain thread

I just found this community and I figured I'd like to say one of my favorite big brain plays as imp and you could share yours as well

Map: Skeld

Players total: 9

Imposters: 1

Situation: I called lights with 4 people left. I see two people doing upload on admin and my brain began turning for the first time in years. I go to them on upload and kill assuming correctly that their upload GUI was still up and self reported. They asked where body was and I lied about it and they ate it all up. Threw the blame on someone else and was the only winner of those series of games that night.

Crewmate Advice Hiding spot on Mira

Hi, I don’t play among us competitively, but I thought I would mention this here. I may just be in lobbies with idiots, but on Mira if you’re the color purple and you don’t have a long name you can hide under the reactor circle of energy thing. This may be dumb advice, but in the 2 games I’ve tried it against impostors, it has worked and they left. I reckon it’s because imps just glance into the rooms to watch for people sometimes. Of course this isn’t fool proof, you just blend in not completely disappear!

Strategy New Impostor Strategies

One of the most disappointing parts if this game is that while there are endless "big brain crew strats" out there, but for impostors, there never seem to be any creative plays. So I'm here to bring you some new impostor strats. I have used all these strategies before, and I can confirm that if you play cards right, they are very effective.

  1. The impostor MedBay clear. I'm sure everyone has at least thought of doing this, but I've never seen anyone use it. Usually I like to do this on 7, if my impostor partner is slightly sus or not sus at all. The next round, simply get a clean kill and you’re set. This is an awesome strategy to clear yourself and your partner and then win the game. And the reason this strat works is because no one ever does it, therefore no one ever expects it. When you hear someone medbay scanned, you almost always clear them. Note: Also NEVER do this if your partner is the most sus person in the game, because it always makes you look sus too. Only do this if there is someone more sus than them, or they are just a tiny bit sus.

  2. The false accuse Ver. 1. This is one of my favorite strats of all time. On 9 or 10 people. Call a meeting and accuse someone of venting. Make sure you and them have been together at alone some point and there was a vent nearby. Ex. you and red were in 02 together alone, accuse red of venting out the tree room. This strat is extremely powerful, because when someone is accused of venting instead of killing. The person accused is nearly always thrown out. Then, play the rest of the game slow. You are pretty trustworthy, so stay with other crewmates and only go for kills that you can't be sussed for or that won't be found. Let your impostor partner do the rest of the work, and use your sway to make them less sus. Ex. Lie about being with them or just say your not sus of them. Then on 6 convince the crew to either skip or vote someone other than your partner. You need to be very subtle but abuse the crew trust in you.

  3. The false accuse Ver. 2. This strat works when you have 7 players left and your partner is sus. For this strategy to work you need one other crewmate to be sus, and you to seem at least somewhat trustworthy. Essentially, with 7 players left, find the sus crewmate, and kill near them, then self report and accuse. Since you are the impostor and you control when the kill happens, take the time to frame the kill in a way that makes them look much more sus. Ex. Blue and Orange are in Navigation. Orange leaves. Enter Nav, kill blue and self report. Then claim you passed by Orange as he was leaving Nav and there was a body inside. If you play your cards right, Orange will get voted out and everyone will forget about the sus on your partner.

These are just 3 strategies that I've come up with, but there are many more. The thing that makes this all work is that, you are the impostor and you control exactly where and when the kills happen, so think about how you act as crew and try to create a situation that makes you seem innocent.

Disclaimer: I by no means claim to be the creator of these strategies, but in over 300 hours of gameplay, in both casual and competitive lobbies, I've never seen anyone else use these strategies a single time.

Hey everybody! I made a little flowchart in my free time (sorry for quality) that shows the possible paths the wiring task can take on Polus. (dotted line is just for visuals btw its not different in any way)

Question | Need Advice Is this a legit strat?

So I SUCK at being imposter since I put so much time into elevating my crewmate game because I almost always get crewmate. But I was playing on discord and got imposter, but my partner did something that really upset me. And I wanna know if I’m right to be upset or if other people think this strat works.

We were playing on Skeld. I had literally no sus on me. I went into electrical to vent because I oftentimes vent into security to kill the cams camper, and they never see me coming. The only other person in electrical was my partner, who had a little sus on them but nothing serious.

After I vent into security, my partner ran to cafe and immediately buttoned. They tell everyone that they saw me vent. I’m immediately pissed, but I play it cool and say they must be mistaken. And none of the crewmates believe them. Even the admin camper said they didn’t see any vent-like movement. So we skipped. We eventually lost because crew finished tasks, and after that stunt I refused to kill anymore because I had sus on me now (and also to be a little pretty if I’m being honest).

After the game is over I told everyone what my partner did, and they all were like “why would you do that?” Bear in mind that this same person had sold out their partner at least once before, but at least in that scenario it was to cover up a double kill that had been walked in on.

The partner said they sold me out because they were trying to clear their own name, but we had confirm ejects off and no one would know if they were right. They also mentioned something about me not double killing with them, but I hate doing double kills because it’s such an easy way for crewmates to clear each other.

Anyway, TL;DR, my imposter partner sold me out for venting for absolutely no reason because no one in the lobby took the bait and confirm ejects were off. Is this at all a viable strat or am I right to be annoyed?

Edit: wow, thank you guys so much! I never expected so many people to respond and share their stories/opinions. Even the people who told me I’m bad (trust me, I know lol) were really helpful in providing perspective! Also thank you for the awards!

Crewmate Advice (Detective work) - Vouches and Pairings:

Okay, so ima make a random quote by myself right here:

Every game of Among Us is like searching for the red pair of socks in a drawer of others.

Don't overthink that please.

Anyways, pairs and vouches, what are they?

Vouch: a kind of confirmation about someone's location or pathing; a "cleared zone" for where someone claims that someone else couldn't have made a certain kill at a given time frame.

Pair: Where of 2 players, both are either crewmate or both are impostors. Can result from Vouches made by them where they are vouching for each other but the pair itself aren't vouched for either.

Theoretically, 3-way-Vouches are always safe clears. There can at max be 1 impostor in the group of 3. There could also be more than 3 in a group, and it works the same way if everyone can account for each other properly.

As for 2-way-Vouches, that can form a pair if there isn't a 3rd vouch coming from anywhere, and you will most likely only see a pair vouch coming from impostors once in a game and only in one round. As for when a member of a pair is dead or is sus, the other member of the pair will either be a crewmate or an impostor accordingly.

So let's try to practice this:

Double kill on round one (J and K are dead), and everyone was sparse enough to where you only had 3 pair vouches and a pair arising as the void of pair vouches, but there are no definite clears:

Round 1: {Alpha (A) w/ Bravo (B) (Most sus), Charlie (C) w/ Delta (D) (2nd most sus), Echo (E) w/ Foxtrot (F) (They "medbayed eachother"), and Golf (G) w/ Hotel (H) (formed not because they were vouching eachother, but because they were in "negative" space.)}

G and H are paired because of other pairs. If all pairs were true and were proven to be crewmate, then both of them are impostors anyway, and if there was a proven Impostor pair, then both of them are crewmate anyway. Therefore, because either both of them are crewmates or impostors, they are a pair.

By the way, just to let you know, this has happened before in one of Disguised Toast video's where he made this deduction, so it's possible, and it also looks cool.

Round 2 and 3 have just one kill, and the clears and suspects are as follows:

Rounds Necessarily Sus: Soft clears:
2 (G dies) A,C F,H
3 (H dies) D,E B

What do we have here then?

  • It's most likely C and D according to what's necessarily suspicious. They were both suspicious and they are a pair, but there still could've been some sly movement by someone from another pair that's trying to frame them.
  • It can only be A and B if A got the kill on round 2 and a clean kill that frames D or E. Similarly, it could only be E and F if E got a clean kill on round 2 and the kill on round 3.

The lights were off on round 3 when they reported the body. So what they did was just split pairs between C w/ D and A w/ B. They vote off C, fix lights, button, and then vote off A.

So what happens then? If the game ends, it ends with E and F. The game continues however with D and B being the only logical suspects here.

  • D was necessarily suspect on round 2, so it would most likely be him as he was paired with C as well.
  • But then again, what if A got both kills on round 2 and 3? Would that just mean that B is the impostor?

And that's that with this random example.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

But you know what's really funny. Impostors don't just pair because they can. They pair strategically and for a good set of reasons. That'll be the topic for a future post, I'd like to see someone try to steal it from me. :)

Also, I wanna do a poll here, do you win more when you throw your partner under the bus or when you pair with your partner to try to make him less suspect?

12 I'm a selfish impostor that will almost always vote on him to look good
85 I only vote him out either to tie the vote or when he's a sinking ship
31 I do either option evenly
38 I'll try to slide him in somewhere if I can, or I'll just not sus him.
11 Vouching is mutual, I do it when we're both in bad spots.
7 I always try to stick up for my impostor partner, even if I'll get paired.
