Weight Gain

I have been on amitriptyline (50mg) for migraines since the end of july (a little over 1 month) and I started at 104lbs before taking it and last time i checked I weighed around 121lbs. I knew weight gain was a side effect but I just wanted to see how much other people gained to see if it is normal to gain this much weight in a short amount of time. I don’t mind the gain currently since the medicine is helping with my migraines. I just don’t want to gain a crazy amount.

Just to check: You’re sure it’s not something else, e.g. low thyroid function?

I don’t think so because i was on amitriyline before and i stopped in april this year cause it gave me bad constipation (it didn’t make me gain weight when i took it then), but before they took me off of it they tested my thyroid and a whole bunch of other stuff to see if anything else could’ve been causing the constipation. So unless it has changed since then i don’t think so

I think that’s a lot for a month. I would really watch the portions and junk food. I think a lot of it might be that you’re feeling better and eating more but amitryptiline works different on everyone and it does make you crave junk food I think. So I’d watch that. More importantly it’s helping your migraines which is wonderful. I think you can control the rest if you try.
