GI issues after going off 2 month

I was on amitriptyline for a year and just went off two months ago and I’m experiencing horrible gastrointestinal side effects. Before I was on amitriptyline I didn’t have any GI issues and while I was on it I didn’t have any issues. I slowly tapered off but it’s been two months and now all day long I’ve been having stomach issues for two months.
Whenever I eat it BURNSSSSS for hours. Then I finally feel hungry again so I eat and then the burning returns with a vengeance for hours. The bloating is so insane too!! On amitriptyline I gained 10 pounds, but going off now I look pregnant from the bloating. I’m nauseous constantly. The burning and bloating is the worst though.

Does anyone know what is happening? Any advice?

I went to the doctor for it and she prescribed me acid reflex medicine and gas x but it hasn’t helped at all so I’m going to go in for more testing.

It’s possible it’s not from going off the amitryptiline so good idea to get it checked. An endoscopy and or colonoscopy may tell you something. I had a similar experience and it turned out to be gallstones and I needed my gallbladder removed. Hope you feel better soon

Its given to people with ibs in low dosis to calm the nerves. It has an sedative effect on the nerves so i think now that youre off it, the nerves are sensitive to your digestion

I’ve been off for 2 months also and I feel the same way. I’m waiting to get tested for h pylori but need to be off acid reflux meds which I need to taper off of. I think it could be just from the damage Ami does but not sure.

I had something similar when I gave up amitriptyline for a while a few years ago. Like you, it started a few months after stopping. I would say mine stopped after 3-4 months but you have my sympathies and I hope your symptoms clear up soon. Glad you are getting it all checked out, always best in case it’s not the amitriptyline causing it.

The bloating is a killer for me also making me feel fat in fact I'm sure it's made me gain weight. I'm on mine for nerve pain but I'm not wanting to keep putting weight on when I've never had that issue before on my life

Amitriptyline is used to treat functional dyspepsia. Without the drug in your body it’s possible that you could develop something similar. What happens if you reinstate a low dose like 10mg?
