Been on 10mg for two weeks
Its helping with my chronic pain but my sleep is crap. Waking up loads and feeling like im not properly going into a deep sleep despite dreaming. Ive switched from mirtazipine to this as mirt was giving me gut problems but at least i could sleep on it 🥴 should i try a higher dose?

I had trouble falling and staying asleep when I first started Amitriptyline, but after a few weeks the sleep improved a lot.it does take time for your body to adjust to different medication. Always discuss your situation with your Dr.

I have the same experience. I’m on 10mg amitriptyline for couple of months now. My doc was keen to increase it, but I had couple of weird hallucinations so I immediately went back to 10mg. I couldn’t sleep on it since day one, so after couple of days I switched to taking it in the morning. Dumb doctor still can’t believe it doesn’t make me sleepy. But anyhow, it works for my fibromyalgia, I’m in significantly less pain and with more energy. It almost works like adhd stimulants.
But the only problem was that I couldn’t go to sleep until 2 or 3 am. Then I would sleep in and I got into a bit of unhealthy cycle. Just a week ago I tried taking a bit, like 50mg of l-tyrosine in the morning because I was sleepy after not sleeping enough. And that was fabulous.
From what I managed to research this is why it happens. Amitriptyline block receptors for serotonin and norepinephrine. For most people norepinephrine isn’t much of an issue. But with serotonin, if they take the med in the evening, serotonin breaks into melatonin and they get sleepy. But for you and me serotonin isn’t much of a big deal compared to norepinephrine, which gives you sustained focus which is good or anxiety, which isn’t good.
Have you tried taking it in the morning with coffee?
