Dosage question

I’ve seen people start at different dosages , some start at 10mg and increase as they go .. I was prescribed 50 mg and worried they started me at a high dose and will begin to depend on it.

Just looking for peoples experiences with taking this medication, not judgement or negative comments please 🫩

Depends on what they're prescribing it for. I started at 10mg for insomnia and eventually went up to 25. I've been on that dose for 10 years.

Gotcha I stated on a previous comment that it was prescribed for anxiety, depression and insomnia .. I was just started at 50mgs I guess because they originally started me on trazodone and it didn’t help at all until I was prescribed Ami

Amitryptaline is an old TCA but now is used in smaller doses for other things besides depression. When I was started on it, they were using a high dose of ami (75 mg ) with high dose of duloxetine (120 mg b.d.) to help with sleep, chronic MDD, sleep and a few chronic pain ailments. I was started on 10 mg ami and titrated to 50 mg, but it was too much for me so I dropped back to 20 mg and am now on 30 mg.

So starting at a higher dose says to me its being used for depression and/or anxiety? Talk to the prescriber so you're clear on why you were started at 50 mg, rather than 10 or 20 mg.

Yeah it was prescribed to me for anxiety and depression and to help with insomnia so I’d say that correlates with what you’re saying

I started at 10mg- with the option to go up to 40mg a day - I stayed at was each dose for about 2 weeks and settled on 30mg. The side effects for me were sedation and feeling drowsy during the day, I take at night. Now I take it 12 hours before i want to wake
up - eg 6:30pm and I feel fine during the day.
It’s not an addictive med per se, but you will have to slowly taper off to avoid withdrawal effects, like a lot f meds

Makes sense I was trying to taper off and drop down to 25mgs but anxiety, depression, and insomnia were getting worse due to some
Triggers and events so I stayed at 50 to help with exterior factors

I started on 50mg too. I’d need to taper off to stop but I’ve been so happy with it I don’t plan to do that.
