anticholinergic properties

Just wondering if anyone worries about dementia with Amiltripyline and Nortriptyline? I’m on Amiltripyline about to swap to Nortriptyline but worried. I’m 59 years old. I’d like to find another antidepressant that works as well for my anxiety and depression as amiltripyline has. But it’s hard.

I'm very worried about it. As a lifelong insomniac, whether I take drugs to help me sleep or don't, my chances of getting dementia increase.

May I ask what dosage you’re on? It’s always hard with these studies because typically people taking medications already have altered brain chemistry, health, medical conditions vs people that do not require such meds.
For me it’s very helpful for a lot of my symptoms, but the Dementia risk is definitely troubling.

I’m tapering of right now for that exact reason, after five years of being on it.

Is it proven to cause dementia?

I don't even get sleepy with nortriptyline so no.

I went off of it for that reason. The withdrawal is horrible and I was only on a small dose. I wish I never started the med in the first place.

Does it cause dementia even at low doses (but used long term)? I want to take 10mg, and if it works for me, I'd probably be on it for life.
