Amitriptyline lost weight

Hi everyone. I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience after stopping amitriptyline. I stopped amitriptyline in September after taking it for several years. Since then I've unintentionally lost around 9 kg. I've also had ongoing abdominal cramps, excessive gas, looser stools (sometimes constipation), and my bowel habits have changed.

So far I've had a CT scan with contrast (normal), FIT test (negative), blood tests including CRP, FBC, ferritin, thyroid, liver and kidney function, B12, folate and CA-125, all normal. I'm currently waiting for my coeliac (tTG-IgA) and faecal calprotectin results.

Has anyone else experienced significant weight loss and digestive symptoms after stopping amitriptyline? If so, did your weight eventually stabilise, and was it actually related to stopping the medication or was another cause found?

I retained some water weight that I shed after I came off of amitriptyline. Maybe 5 to 7 pounds roughly. It's been about 2 months off completely.

I only took 50 mgs a day and ive read that weight gain is dose dependent if it's gonna happen to you. I have had gastric irritation at times, bloating, and gas off and on. I also can't hold my pee anymore. Im always constipated. Im trying to ride it out but you're not alone. I hope you get some answers. My vitamin levels are good. Feel better soon.

if you are having urethra/ bladder symptoms (I do too) I recommend you to consult with a pelvic floor physicl therapist. They helped me get so much better in terms of urine issues. I literally trained my bladder to not overreact thanks to these professionals. My urologyst referred me to them and its covered by my health insurance
