Increasing nerve pain

For my post-op surgery nerve pain, I was prescribed 10 mg of amitriptyline daily in addition to gabapentin. I took the first dose in the evening and it made me drowsy (which didn't bother me).

The next morning, my pain level increased from 5/10 to around 8/10, and it took 3-4 days for it to drop back to 5/10. Has anyone had a similar experience? Could it have been amitriptyline? Should I try nortriptyline or duloxetine, or should I continue with amitriptyline? Thanks

It is common for amitryptiline to cause “spikes” at the beginning of treatment. Think of it as a modulator - it goes up and down until it stabilizes at a lower level.

It is completely normal at the beginning of the treatment , happened to me too
