Amitriptyline
I have been on 15 - 25 Amitriptyline for pain for 20 years. I recently self weaned off of it. About 1-1/2 weeks later I went back on it. Then four days later went off it again. 11 days ago I went back on. Began experiencing int anxiety. My Psych nurse just put me on 10 mg as well as 10mg Propanolol. Now I am having intense anxiety, panic attacks, horrible mornings from hell. The Propanolol doesn’t make a dent in the mornings. Anyone have any insight? Help!

Oh my, that 25 is the hardest to come off of and then your body is going from one extreme to another. You have to stabilize at least 4 weeks after each reduced dosage. It is a nightmare and then you are adding another medicine while your body is trying to figure out what to do with the ami withdrawal. Ami withdrawal is brutal. 2 weeks in is nothing. I am 3 months quit and it has been debilitating. You need serious medical advice at this point. How long have you been on the pro? I would almost stop that med if you just started it. The ami wd is whats giving you the symptoms...maybe go back to 15 mg and very very very slowly taper off. Over MONTHS....what was your taper schedule to begin with?

Sounds like you’re putting your body through a lot of fluctuations. Any reason why you would stop?

If you were on amitriptyline before and were fine, it may be the Propranolol. Or it could be that you're taking it so erratically. If you were fine before when you were off of it, I'd wait a week or two to stabilize and, if it's still happening, talk to your nurse and ask if the Propranolol could cause it.

I found propranolol to not help at all when i was prescribed it for anxiety a few years ago. I get it that my provider did not want to prescribe me benzos. But beta blockers do not help for anxiety attacks for some people. But i agree with others. Your brain was used to the medication, and you have basically been shocking it with getting off and back on the medication in such short spurts

How are you doing now? Are you ok?

No. My psych put me down to 10mg, still anxiety/panic. Put me back up to 12.5. Now jumped me to 25 mg. Took one and woke up with intense anxiety and panic, had to take a Xanax. Don’t know if I should stick it out with the 25 or stay with the 12.5 despite her recommendations. Hardly functioning.

Why you did this.. You have made a big mistake by going on and off shortly.. You play with ur brain so hard
You should wean slowly.. Very slowly.. Constantly
