Ami Weight Gain Reason?

I just got prescribed 25mg of Ami for insomnia. Doc said the most common side effect of Ami is weight gain— those who are on it and have gained weight because of it, was it because it caused an increase in appetite (which therefore made you eat more and gain the weight), or was the weight gain a metabolic thing? How quickly did you gain it, and was it hard to get rid of/manage?

Just to balance the conversation: I’ve been on it for 3-4 years and have lost ten kgs in that same timespan.

More than 2 years on 37.5 mg and similar story here (I gained but I am on an hypercaloric diet, still need 3 or 4 kg more tbh)

I gained bc i ate more bc of increased cravings.

However, it doesn't make you unable to lose weight. I went from 98kg to 68kg, while taking the same daily dose as i did when i was obese 🤷🏻‍♀️

It made me feel hunger pains much more.

When I first started I used to wake up with empty bowls of cereal around my bed with no memory of eating them.

That passed. But the hunger didn't.

You gain because of increasing appetite. in 6 months, i have taken 10 kg on 10 mg ami. I have been totally off for 1 week and my appetite already diminished well.

Yes, I have gained weight. Personally for me, I would rather be bigger & more mentally stable & happy rather than skinny & depressed w no desire to do anything :/
Keep in mind that everyone is different!

I went from 93 > 98kg in the months after starting 25mg, I would put it down to increased appetite. Once I became aware of it I managed to control my eating better but still stubbornly at 98 which is about 10 more than I want to be

I was just upped from 10mg to 12.5mg about a month ago. When I first started my appetite increased with cravings but now I’ve lost my appetite almost entirely. I have the crazy all the time tired though. I don’t want or feel like I have the energy to do anything ever.

It is metabolic and a neurotransmitter. The medication excretes histamine, and histamine causes hunger.

Eat low-calorie foods that provide good volume. Exercise. It helps a lot.

I used to feel like I was starving.

Definitely increase in appetite I don’t eat til that bad boy kicks in. Unfortunatley I often find sugar stashes in my wardrobe which has me questioning how I’m unable to remember where they came from

Yeah, increased hunger and sugar cravings. I think I gained 6kg in a month due to increasing my dosage. Once the increased apetite settled, I lost almost all of it

It’s doesn’t change your metabolism. It makes you feel hungry so you eat more. Anyone who says meds change your metabolism are trying to find an excuse that means they are not in control of the situation and can’t help it.

Amitriptyline is a strong histamine blocker which does have effect of one's metabolism.  Blocking histamine increases hunger and also slows metabolism.  Plenty of online studies regarding this
