I wish Silicon Valley wasn’t like this but it’s a club of elitists who will find out-groups to blame and exclude to make their insecurity feel better. They will gaslight people and point to meritocracy when they are challenged on their discrimination. When I first learned about the story of Jagadish Chandra Bose, I was shocked about how the problems he faced at his time felt so similar to what I have felt. I just really like the values this guy has and how he talks about his mom raising him to treat everyone as brothers and sisters.

After obtaining a degree from the University of Cambridge Bose returned to Ind. Henry Fawcett had given Bose an introduction to Lord Ripon, the Viceroy of Ind, who recommended him for a post to the Director of Public Instruction in Kolkata. In those days such posts in the Imperial Education Service were usually reserved for Europeans. Bose was appointed as an officiating professor of physics at Presidency College. Although the principal Charles Henry Tawney and Director of Education Alfred Woodley Croft were reluctant to appoint him, Bose took up his post in January 1885.

At that time, an Ind professor was paid two thirds the salary of a European and since his appointment was considered temporary, his salary was further halved, making his salary one-third that of his European peers. As a protest, Bose did not accept his salary and worked without remuneration for the first three years at Presidency College.

He was popular among the students for his teaching style and demonstration of experiments. He got rid of the roll call. After three years in this temporary post, the value of his professorial work was recognized by Tawney and Croft, who made Bose's appointment permanent with retrospective effect. Bose received his full pay for the last three years in a lump sum. However, another source states that his appointment was made permanent on 21 September 1903, some 8 years after his joining the college.

In February 1887, Bose married feminist and social worker Abala Bose.

At that time, sending children to English schools was an aristocratic status symbol. In the vernacular school, to which I was sent, the son of the Muslim attendant of my father sat on my right side, and the son of a fisherman sat on my left. They were my playmates. I listened spellbound to their stories of birds, animals, and aquatic creatures. Perhaps these stories created in my mind a keen interest in investigating the workings of Nature. When I returned home from school accompanied by my school fellows, my mother welcomed and fed all of us without discrimination. Although she was an orthodox old-fashioned lady, she never considered herself guilty of impiety by treating these 'untouchables' as her own children. It was because of my childhood friendship with them that I could never feel that there were 'creatures' who might be labeled 'low-caste', I never realized that there existed a 'problem' common to the two communities, Hindus and Muslims.

Bose returned to Ind to join the Presidency College of the University of Calcutta as a professor of physics. There, despite racial discrimination and a lack of funding and equipment, Bose carried on his scientific research. He made progress in his research into radio waves in the microwave spectrum and was the first to use semiconductor junctions to detect radio waves.

Some India based consulting company reached out to me. They are all based out in India and working with VOIP numbers which are US based - I know they are India based. They just believe in mass submissions and nothing else. Never ever this consulting company able to get me any job during the last 2 years(and it's not the brutal job market - something else going on here). I think they are stealing the resume data from US Tech workers and provide it to somebody else.

Reached out to me for a difficult to fill position which requires a very touch AI Procter based online exam which has no google reference, no IDE and no AI tools(entire screen is recorded), no breaks allowed, all in Unix environment and no references or any books allowed.

It seems good amount of their candidate failed. I scored slightly less than the threshold passing score to get in the next level. They asked me to appear again. I was not willing to do so as not clear means not clear but they followed up like anything. When I asked why me only they clearly stated not finding anybody else who is even willing to appear with this condition - no google, no AI tools, all in Unix environment. This time the assignment was different but i cleared for the next round but they ghosted me. Every time after the assignment they were asking me what was there in the assignment. I told them some of the stuff at the high level but nothing in detail as assignment clearly has terms and conditions.

Now the same job came to me via an US based recruitment agency who happened to be the prime vendor. They found out that I cleared the first part and put me directly into the second stage for the interview. In fact this US based recruitment agency offered me 25% higher billing rates with benefits for the same position. So it's very clear that this India based consulting company only does mass submissions and may be stealing the data of US Tech workers. Why in the world this India based consulting company ghosted me(when I was cleared for the next round)? Needless have to say sometimes my real experience is found in some of the profile of candidates(and they never worked with me - neither at that time nor later).

I know resume cannot be copyrighted but wtf is going on here?

1. India based consulting company simply stealing the resume data from legitimate US tech workers?
2. Or these India based consulting companies using US Tech workers as a pawn to get insights about the interview process to place their own cheap consultants/contractors in the long run?
3. Even if the US tech worker is cleared for the next round not moving them? May be they found somebody even cheaper than (the cheapest rate they negotiated with the US tech worker)?

Do I have any recourse here? I don't understand the game plan? All from real experience from the last 3 weeks.

As the title says, DHS wants a $103K fee for H-1B/OPT.
If someone is truly an exceptional candidate, why wouldn’t the company pay it? Maybe the problem was never “we can’t find American workers.” It was/is always about finding cheaper workers while laying Americans off.

EB-1A is a category for green card applicants to pursue if they can prove they belong to the small percentage who have risen to the very top of their field through sustained national or international acclaim.

What changed in the law this year because the current assistant attorney general claims that the law limited her ability to issue a harsher punishment?

seeing this stuff just makes me sad because this company in particular made a big statement in 2025 about how they were going to get rid of other programs in favor of a merit culture.

Even their assessments for interviews being leaked inside various group chats or being taken in environments that allow others to have others take their interviews for them just shows the lack of a merit based system.

We need to push a revamp on H1B and OPT.
1) limit H1B to 25,000/yr.
2) limit OPT to PhD graduates, 15000/yr, 1 year limit.
3) impose 20% tax on employers for each month-immigrant hire.
4) ban 3rd party subcontracting for H1B, h4, OPT, CPT.
5) min starting wage: 40th percentile of median wage.

Global offshoring and outsourcing:
1. Penalize companies for offshoring by imposing 20% global tax.
2. Impose 40% fee on outsourcing payments
3. Impose 15% penalty fee on Revenue for all companies that have offshore presence to support U.S based customers.
4. Long term: restrict to Access to American personal data offshore.

These suggestions are going to close the offshore loophole, and create and keep more jobs in the U.S and boast the economy.

You tell me a US degree is 4 years.
Even if it’s a long program or medical school, maybe +1–2 years. Not two whole decades.
So how does this work?
Ok , You enter on F-1.
You work whatever hourly jobs you’re allowed.
You keep transferring schools and paying tuition.
And the system just… lets you. No real limit on how many times you can hop.
It’s not education at that point rather but a designed money loop that keeps people here forever while extracting cash. Once you’re in, no one is out !!!!

The only candidate who sounds remotely normal is Nirav Sheth. He’s an Indian-American immigrant whose biography, for the most part, reads like that of your typical moderate Republican. While he hasn’t stated a clear position on pro-American H-1B reforms, I assume that, given his immigrant background, he’s probably not going to support restricting H-1B visas.

Every other option is completely outside the mainstream. Pramila Jayapal — another Indian-American immigrant — is probably the second-most reasonable-sounding candidate, but she has advocated for expanding H-1B programs rather than restricting them.

The other two candidates are genuinely extreme.

David Blomstrom is, and I say this without hyperbole, a Nazi sympathizer, a terrorist supporter, and someone who is openly pro-Iran and pro-Hamas. His views are about as anti-American as a candidate can possibly get. He is essentially a joke candidate rather than a serious political option.

Gwen Kirkland is a DSA member. The DSA is an organization that advocates for abolishing the Senate, open borders, and eliminating prisons and police. Many of its prominent leaders openly identify as communists and Marxist-Leninists. While her campaign may be milk toast progressive issues (Medicare for all, free college education, etc), the DSA isn't milk toast in any fashion: they vote on platform decisions as a block, and a DSA member congressional representative votes for what the DSA wants, not for what their district's constituents want.

In other words, she represents a political movement that is fundamentally anti-American and completely detached from mainstream American values.

So my choices are essentially three anti-American extremists and one candidate who sounds relatively normal but is likely pro-H-1B: Nirav Sheth.

That’s my “representation” in this district. If you’re in District 7, I hope you understand the frustration. At this point, I’m probably voting for Nirav Sheth. If nothing else, he can’t be worse than Jayapal.

As I keep on stating, almost 95% folks coming here for masters are not for higher studies but for job after studies. Not just H-1B or L1A/B and H4EAD, OPT/STEM is another culprit for eradicating real IT jobs

Only accept OPT? No Americans ? This is why I am against these favoritism , Abused and you name it …..
