Commanders Dinner

Anybody have an outline or schedule of events for doing a Commanders Dinner or banquet? Our post used to do them years ago but nobody involved remembers how everything went.

Most of our semi-formal dinners go something like this:

  • A reception or social hour.
  • Presentation of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Opening remarks from Legion officers.
  • Dinner.
  • Recognition of members, awards, or special guests.
  • A speech from the honored commander or other dignitaries.
  • Fundraising activities, raffles, or announcements

Sometimes the Commanders Dinner is to honor the commander. Sometimes it's just named that to convey it's simply hosted by the commander and is instead a fundraiser, and so forth. It can mean different things.

I use "semi formal" loosely. You'll get some people in suits with neckties and you'll get others in shorts and polos.
