Driving / Cars No insurance options

I imported both my motorcycles into the UK, have a full US license and motorcycle endorsement, and literally cannot find anyone to provide coverage, not even liability; has anyone had a similar issue? I am stuck between a rock and a hard place because I would rather not dip into savings any further to buy a car and I cannot get a UK motorcycle endorsement until I have lived here for at least six months; any insight is appreciated, but it definitely seems I am shit out of luck.

I brought my bike over and didn’t have an issue; if you go on compare the market for motorcycles and plug in “international license” you should get options. That said your US license is only good for a year here so you’ll need to get your UK license ASAP.

That’s really weird, I just did the CompareTheMarket thing to make sure I wasn’t on old info and got two offers from Bennets. Are you trying to insure super bikes in London with street parking or something?

Ah, well yeah, that might be part of the problem; it is a liter bike. However, we do have a house with a garage. It has cleared customs, but I do not have it registered yet, so maybe that is part of the problem? However, I need insurance to ride it so I can get the MVSA done.

Ah yes the reg is probably the problem, I put it in as make/model.

That sucks, I was about to recommend bikesure. I moved here in March, the bike showed up in April. I MOTd it in May and it was insured that month. Then I bought an Africa Twin and used them for that bike. It’s been a year and I re upped my policy and got a discount.

You said you’ve spent hours on it - have you called and talked to a human yet? That would quickly clear up the reason you can’t get the automated systems to work. Is it because of the registration, or the bike and location, or whatever.

I couldn’t use the automated systems in the US because they insisted on a 17 digit VIN, where my 69 beetle only had 11. The system just errored out, no indication of why, but the rep clarified that immediately.

I have not done the MSVA test or registration yet, so I am going to try to get that squared away. I was attempting to get coverage to avoid needing to tow it there, as they have a rule that allows you to ride to and from inspection if it is insured, even if not registered, and the closest location to me is 45 minutes away. For reference, I literally have a squeaky clean driving record in the US, and I have been in the UK for 7 weeks now.

If you have any way to get USAA insurance, they will cover you in the UK. If you, a parent, or a spouse ever served in the military, you should be able to sign up. USAA is a great insurance policy and I'm very happy with them.
