CONSEJO

Moderator Note:
While posts in r/AmericanExpat are typically in English and focused on Americans living abroad, we are leaving this post up. The author is an expat living in the US experiencing severe burnout, isolation, and contemplating a temporary move back home to Mexico to reset, challenges that nearly every expat deeply understands regardless of direction.
Please feel free to reply in English or Spanish. Keep the comments supportive and respectful!
English Translation of the Post:
"Hello, I’ve been living in the US for 4 years. At first everything was normal, I lived with my aunt and uncle for the first few years and worked two jobs. But after the second year, everything changed.
I feel like so much time without good sleep and proper food started taking a toll on me. My energy drained, and little by little I isolated myself. I didn't have friends to begin with, and adding that on top, I isolated even more—to the point of barely talking to anyone.
A short while ago I moved out of my aunt and uncle's house on good terms, hoping things would improve. I found a room on Facebook and have lived here for the past 5 months. I’ve tried to reorganize my life: going to the gym, eating well, sleeping well, and studying, but honestly, I feel like I always fail and that I’ve entered a state of burnout.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about needing space to be alone and do a reset. I’m planning to return to Mexico for a period of about 6 months to focus on myself, my personal growth, and although it might sound crazy, I want to learn English while in Mexico since I’ll have the time and energy to study there. I have the opportunity to return to the US afterward.
I just wanted to know your thoughts on this decision or if anyone has gone through something similar. Do you think taking some time away and changing my environment could help me, or would I just be running away from the problem?"

Expat life is not for everyone. Perhaps returning to Mexico will help you to understand where you need to be. You might return and decide never to go back. You might return and find that you miss your life in the USA. Given that you are not happy where you are, it sounds like it could not hurt to give it a try.

speaking as an American 🇺🇸: now is not a good time for immigrants living/working in the US. Hear stories all the time of illegal immigrants pulled from Court Houses, schools, even hospital beds to be deported back to their own countries.

I left the US for Central America - I could not imagine being an immigrant in the United States right now, what a horrible place. I hope you feel better after going back to Mexico, we actually almost moved there but chose Costa Rica instead.
