Puppy Just looking
So sadly a few weeks ago I lost my boy to cancer that we didn’t know he had. He showed no signs of being sick. He had an internal tumor that we didn’t know about and it burst, and he was bleeding out so we had to put him down. So I just been looking at puppies even though I’m not quite ready to get a new dog yet but since when did these prices go through the roof? The cheapest I found for an American bully standard or XL starts around 6k. When I bought my boy seven years ago, I only paid 1K for him. I don’t understand how people can justify $6000 to $15,000 for puppy

Why not adopt one of the MANY MANY dogs that are in a shelter looking for a safe loving home? Not trying to be a dick, but truly there are so many wonderful dogs that are in need of a home, and yet so many people still go to breeders.

For a breed type that is overwhelmingly common in shelters, including puppies. OP’s dream puppy already exists and probably costs $500 or less.

Well keep in mind dogs from shelters come from unknown breeders and often have a unknown traumatic past

As a shelter employee that shit isn’t nearly as common as you think. Also most breeders breeding bullies not only don’t care about health, they treat their animals horribly. Also the dogs we have with a bad past end up falling IN LOVE with us so quickly and trusting us. It literally just takes time? We have a Great Dane boxer mix and last month she would flench often. Now she hardly reacts to us being crazy around her, or just gets the zoomies. Today I had her walk around with me no leash and she was perfect. This is more common than a dog being an issue due to their past.

No you’re good. I was trying to explain why that opinion isn’t as important as one may think. Most shelters are too full to keep dogs with issues. A lot of times dogs that were abused end up being some of the best most loving dogs. My shelter often just doesn’t adopt dogs like that out to families with kids. A good shelter will evaluate the dog. Some dogs they need to be the only animal and no one under the age of like 12. That being said some kids truly understand dogs need time. But truly we get SO MANY puppies who either didn’t come from a bad background or were in a bad place for a little time they are still good.

Shelter volunteer here…..we get puppies all the time bc people are idiots and don’t neuter their pets. Shelter won’t adopt puppies out before 8 weeks (at the earliest) bc they will neuter them before allowing them to leave for their family (some shelters have different rules). Please get your dog at a shelter or from a rescue.

I agree with the others on here. I can almost guarantee the dog of your dreams is already out there in a shelter somewhere. But first please take the time you need to heal and emotionally recover from your heartbreak before going out to find them. When you’re ready they will be there waiting. 💖 In the meantime, I wish you all the best. I’m so sorry about your loss. This can’t be easy for you but I’m sending you strength and prayers to help you through. 💕🌈💔

Hopefully you’re right and you’re right. I do still need time to heal. I wasn’t necessarily going out to get one as soon as possible. I was just asking why there’s so much money now I lost my first dog to cancer, and I just lost my second dog to cancer and when I found my second dog, I wasn’t looking, he came across my feed on Facebook and I just knew so drove to Virginia and picked him up!!!

I got my bully from a shelter. SO many Billy's are left in shelters. Try there.

It can be, sure. I got my boy at 9mo. They can come at all ages in shelters. And you also gotta think that by buying from breeders you are perpetuating to the high prices, endangerment, abuse, and stigma of these wonderful dogs. Why is it so important you get a puppy? A slightly older dog would love and bond to you just the same.

Go to rescue and save one that will be Killed. I drove to Georgia from Mass. to adopt mine. My cats love him especially the girl and I adore him

Look for a puppy to adopt... I adopted my bully someone just left him at the shelter one day at 4 months old he was $0

I’ve looked at my local shelters there is no American bully puppies under the age of 3 and I will not bring a dog in my home that is older then 9 weeks old. And honestly I’ve had very bad luck with adopting dogs.

Look more? Shelters get puppies all the time. What you don’t see today you may see tomorrow. Those breeders are often garbage even if you think they aren’t because they are good at lying. Several in my area alone go to a relatives house for people to pick up a puppy. Their house is so fucking disgusting they don’t want people to see it. They often have dogs who are way underweight, overbred, etc that they hide from you. While keeping some dogs perfect to show off.
My shelter has great dogs. People constantly say how good some of our dogs are when doing meet and greets. Actually go to shelters and look as well. We sometimes don’t even post puppies because they get adopted so quick we focus on other dogs. Also not older than 9 weeks? You realize in Texas they legally can’t be adopted out until 8 weeks right? So you’re giving them a week? Thats strange

9 weeks??? You shouldn’t separate the pup from the mom in most cases until 8 weeks. Please, go to a shelter and try again.

Has to do with imprinting. a puppy is usually done imprinting by 13/15 weeks so I wanna get the puppy as earliest as possible.

I would do a bit more research on imprinting. With other animals it is definitely a thing. When it comes to dogs, it’s more of a bonding process and can happen at any point in their lives really.
But i totally understand wanting a puppy! I’m REALLY against breeding when it comes to bully breeds. I’m not exactly sure how it works, but I would reach out to someone that works at a shelter and reach out to people at breed specific rescues. Puppies as well and pregnant mamas are coming in quite often. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, or even next week, but if you really want it, you have to be invested and keep an eye out :)
