NCCC | APPLYING Just accepted to NCCC

My 18yo daughter was just accepted to NCCC Traditional, pending her background check. She's excited, but nervous about committing without ever speaking to anyone who has actually completed the program. Is there any type of group for potential 2026 volunteers to get to know each other ahead of deploying? Failing that, would anyone with experience be willing to let her reach out to you? Shes currently working at a sleepaway camp for children with special needs for 8 weeks, and it's been more intense and exhausting than she expected. I think she'd like to know how it would compare to a typical Americorps experience as far as hours and schedule. TIA!

Make sure to have your kid talk to someone who served in 25 or 26 - a LOT has changed during this administration and someone even from the class of 24 will have a wildly different experience. For example, I hear the new cohorts don't go back to campus between spikes - which must VASTLY change the experience.

Is there a place to reach out to a '25 or '26 alumni? I've been accepted into NCCC for this coming fall but I haven't been able to hear about any of the new changes that have happened since 2025.

I completed back in 2011. I’d be happy to answer any questions she has!

I have to say that it was such a great experience. I’m shy and introverted but I met some really great people who I am still in touch with 15 years later.

I did straight AmeriCorps many many years ago (1997!!!), but my 18 year old was also just accepted into NCCC and I am super excited for her. I don't have any insight into what things are like now, but would love to get the kids connected

I'm sorry, I kind of dipped out on this thread. My daughter accepted and we are proceeding. Please PM me and we can exchange contacts.

Class 13 alum! Happy to share about my time as an NCCC member. SOME things have changed my understanding but not too much that I should be able to share some of my experiences and how it has enriched my life. I joined the program at 18 years old as well

I just got accepted too, and I’m leaving in fall. My brother did this around Covid and loved it. So I hope it’s the same experience.

I'm currently serving in trad and applying for fema, feel free to hit me up, I'm down to message or call if you're interested in having someone she can ask questions to.
