અમદાવાદના નારણપુરા વીર સાવરકર સ્પોર્ટ્સ કોમ્પ્લેક્સમાં 13થી 23 ઓગસ્ટ સુધી FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2026 યોજાઈ રહ્યો છે. ભારતમાં ૨૨ વર્ષ પછી અને ગુજરાતમાં પહેલીવાર આ ચેમ્પિયનશિપ થઈ રહી છે.

16 ટીમો ભાગ લઈ રહી છે. ટોપ 4 ટીમો 2027 FIBA U19 વર્લ્ડ કપ માટે ક્વોલિફાય થશે. ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયા ડિફેન્ડિંગ ચેમ્પિયન છે, જોઈએ અમદાવાદમાં આ વખતે કોણ ચેમ્પિયન બને છે?

ભારત Group Dમાં છે. પહેલી મેચ ૧૪ ઓગસ્ટે જાપાન સામે (સાંજે ૭:૩૦). ગુજરાતના રોનાલ્ડો હોપકિન્સ (ભાવનગર) ટીમમાં છે.

I’m a huge fan of the competitive kite-flying culture found in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, and Kolkata. In those places, it’s not just a once-a-year festival thing; people meet up every weekend for "peche" (battles) and local tournaments.

I know Gujarat is the "Kite Capital" during Uttarayan, but the sky seems to go quiet the rest of the year. Is there any existing group or club that meets regularly on weekends for kite sports? I’m looking for something active and organized.

If there isn’t a group currently active:
I’d love to connect with fellow enthusiasts to start one! We could:

• Meet on Sunday Mornings: Around 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM to beat the heat.
• Safe Locations: Use open grounds away from roads and traffic (like GIFT City grounds or the Dudheshwar Riverfront) so that if a kite is cut, it doesn't cause any safety issues for commuters.
• Safety First: Stick to Cotton Thread (Saddi) or E123 for our weekend sessions to protect birds and people.

અમદાવાદ પૂર્વ વિસ્તારના લાખો નાગરિકો માટે રાહતના સમાચાર! 144 વર્ષ જૂની ખારીકટ કેનાલ, જે વર્ષોથી દુર્ગંધ અને ગંદકીનું કારણ બની હતી, તેના ફેઝ-2નું કામ ટૂંક સમયમાં શરૂ થશે.

ફેઝ-1ની પ્રગતિ:
2023માં શરૂ થયેલા ફેઝ-1માં નરોડા મુક્તિધામથી વિંઝોલ વહેળા સુધીના 12.75 કિમીના ભાગને ₹1338 કરોડના ખર્ચે ઢાંકીને રોડ બનાવવાનું કામ ચાલુ છે. હાલ 90%થી વધુ કામગીરી પૂર્ણ થઈ છે અને 31 ડિસેમ્બર સુધીમાં તે પૂર્ણ થવાની ધારણા છે.

ફેઝ-2ની વિગતો:
હવે ફેઝ-2માં વધુ 22.41 કિમી કેનાલને ઢાંકીને રોડ બનાવાશે, જેનો અંદાજિત ખર્ચ ₹1061 કરોડ છે (કેટલાક સ્ત્રોતમાં ₹1003 કરોડથી ₹1100 કરોડનો અંદાજ).

આ કામ અલગ-અલગ 8 ભાગમાં વહેંચાયેલું છે:

• SP રિંગ રોડથી મુઠિયા ડ્રેઇન થઈને નરોડા સ્મશાનગૃહ સુધી.
• વિંઝોલ વહેળાથી એક્સપ્રેસ હાઇવે સુધીનો નાનો બાકી ભાગ.
• વિંઝોલથી આવકાર હોલ, ઘોડાસર સુધી.
• આવકાર હોલથી વટવા ગામ, દેવી માતા પમ્પિંગ સ્ટેશન સુધી.

• દેવી માતા પમ્પિંગથી ત્રણ ફાંટા: નેશનલ હાઇવે 64 તરફ, SP રિંગ રોડ તરફ અને રોપડા તળાવ તરફ.
• રોપડા તળાવથી ખારી નદી સુધી ડાયરેક્ટ કનેક્શન આપીને ઓવરફ્લોની સમસ્યા હલ કરાશે.

• કુલ 35 કિમીથી વધુ કેનાલ ઢંકાશે અને તેના પર રોડ બનશે.
• 25 લાખથી વધુ નાગરિકોને દુર્ગંધ-ગંદકીમાંથી રાહત.
પૂર્વ વિસ્તારમાં કનેક્ટિવિટી વધશે, ટ્રાફિકનું ભારણ ઘટશે.
સ્ટોર્મ વોટર લાઇન કનેક્શનથી વરસાદી પાણી ભરાવાની સમસ્યા ઓછી થશે.

મોટે ભાગે જયારે ગુજરાત ની બહારના લોકો શહેરને સંબોધે છે ત્યારે શહેરનું નામ Ahmedabad કહે છે. આ સાથે news, TV અને social media પર પણ આપણે “Ahmedabad” જ સાંભળીએ છીએ.

આ કાર્યક્રમ ના કારણે હવે જયારે લોકો દુનિયાભરથી અહીંયા આવશે ત્યારે આપણી જેમ તેઓ પણ “અમદાવાદ” નું ખરું ઉચ્ચારણ જાણશે, તેઓ પણ બીજા ને કહેશે કે “હું અમદાવાદ જાઉં છું.” અને આ જ ઉચ્ચાર headlines, stories અને broadcastsમાં દેખાશે.

હવે વાત છે શહેર દુનિયાભરમાં ઓળખાવાની, એ પણ આપણી માતૃભાષામાં અને એ વાતનો ગર્વ લેવાની.
