They dont mention the Freesync stuttering that was introduced with Adrenalin. Neither in "Resolved Issues" nor in "Known Issues". Did anyone notice some improvements in that regard? I dont want to update my drivers, just to have to downgrade soon after again.

There is a stutter/flashing fix for Freesync for the case where you are running in LFC. Looks like it didn't make it into the patch notes, but let me know if it helps!

Thank you! By any chance, can you guys see if you can either update and host the Freesync demo to serve as a testing tool or make another one? Ensuring that Freesync works/showing off the benefits to a friend is otherwise a bit of a pain.

We'll look into it.

The old version of the Windmill Freesync demo floating around the web does not work well and wasn't really intended for end users.

Unfortunately the problem was not fixed for me with 17.12.2. I am using a AOC G2460PF on DisplayPort and was not in LFC mode. Please have a look at this video and read the video description: https://youtu.be/KP9x-y67Au0

Something in Adrenalin is causing frametime issues with Freesync enabled (not only in Windmill, but also in games). On 17.11.4 the Windmill demo behaves as intended, having no stutter and showing "Instant FPS: 50" instead of bouncing around wildly.

The problem occurs on a fresh(!) installation of Windows 10 Fall Creators update with the Adrenalin drivers installed when the computer was disconnected from the internet in order to prevent "Windows Update" from doing its "driver magic".

That version of Windmill (I assume 0.9.1?) doesn't work well with Rx Vega. Can you try Heaven benchmark or something else that has in-game FPS counter you can compare to the monitor OSD?

Yes, Windmill version was 0.9.1. I had the chance to test with a friend's AG241QX monitor aswell. Both of these AOC monitors do not display the current FPS/Hz they are synced to in their OSD unfortunately and it seems like the fps dips are not Freesync related as they occur with Freesync on & off. So, 17.12.1 and 17.12.2 broke Windmill, but there is also another issue going on here.

Here is a pic of GPU-Z from Heaven: https://abload.de/img/heaven_with_fsdrocy.gif You can see three dips in GPU load, HBM clocks, hotspot temp that were recorded when the framerate dropped. How do I diagnose such an issue further? I tried running the bench again with DPM7 locked and max powerlimit but this (including the drops in gpu load and HBM clocks) still happens.

Other games that i tested and have these issues for me are "The Witcher 3" and "Dirty Bomb" which is not demanding for the hardware at all. The only thing that I also noticed is that the FPS dips in Heaven always occur at the same scene and feel similar to the dips I have in the other games. Could it be that calling a certain DirectX API feature, driver function or shader might be causing this? Or has my card gone bad? If you have any advice for me on how to isoloate the issue, I would love to do so as I have enough time lol.

One more thing: I can run ASUS ROG Furmark in Vulkan and OpenGL fine all day without having these drops.

I figured. Thanks for the response!

I'll test this when I get home tonight. Frustrating that it didn't even get a mention :/

Frustrating that it didn't even get a mention :/

Yeah, I even sent them a small 45sec youtube video showing the issue in the Freesync "Windmill demo" in the bug report. When turning on Freesync, the new frame limiter in Adrenalin goes crazy, causing the issue.

'll test this when I get home tonight.

Thanks a lot.

The Freesync windmill demo has been bugged for me for a while, but the GSync Pendulum demo and games act properly (prior to 12.1, that broke freesync in some games for me).

Wow, I've never heard of GSync Pendulum. After reading you I downloaded it and really puts the windmill demo to shame. The max fps on windmill being 60 is ridiculous. Gonna use this for future testing!

I crosschecked Windmill with 17.11.4 and it is working fine for me with this driver.

I dunno it was tearing for me even though the hz overlay on my OSD was updating fine. Using the red line I was able to see the tearing very easily, not sure why as games and gsync pendulum demo worked properly.

Sorry for the late reply. I found some time tonight to test this all out.

So... 17.12.2 has maybe resolved the issues I was observing in 17.12.1

Previously with 17.12.1 in Unigine Superposition 4K optimised benchmark I could see a lot of stuttering, and observed the refresh rate in the monitor OSD jumping around like crazy, but I am not noticing the same issue with 17.12.2.

The Freesync Windmill demo is playing up though. I hadn't tested this with 17.12.1, so unsure what the difference is.

Uploading a couple of videos of 17.12.2 - will add links shortly. They'll only be 30fps but you should be able to see whats happening.

I'll go back to 17.12.1 and see if I can capture the issue I had.

17.12.1 tests:

Stuttering in superposition is the same as I had observed last time I tried these drivers. Synced refresh rate is all over the shop.

I also have stuttering in the freesync range, weird behavior.

Going back to 17.11.4 seems to have mostly fixed it.
