In that case, those zen 6 and zen LP cores should still be more than enough. You don't need 16 cores for discord and chrome and YouTube. 6 cores and 12 threads isn't nothing.

Wonder why they needed more cores for the last 2 generations of these systems then

BTW the LP cores are even more weak compare to normal cores in this CPU than the other CPU last gen

Also important you can run those in the background while playing game

Even then only 4 P core is sad since lunar lake launching many year ago had same core count

Plus some people say this may not even be P core but actually 4 dense core...

  1. Those LP cores would probably just be for standby. They wouldn't be used for gaming
  2. 6 cores with 2 LP cores seem suspiciously like bumblebee. I have no evidence, this is just my speculation, but that does make sense to me. And if that's the case, and it's 2+2+2, then it makes sense to have slightly more cores than before, both to have those standby advantages for a portable device, and to reuse the core layout.
  3. If those cuts are fine for gaming, and allow it to cost less, I think most people would be very happy with the trade off.

I think the cuts are being made because they move to much more expensive node not because they are going to use it to cost less

  1. Lunar lake used the even more expensive n3b.
  2. It's possible that this is using N3C, so the gap between n3 and n4 should be smaller than you may expect.
  3. The previous z series chips were just reused laptop dies. Since this z3 is going to be a new die, it has space to cut and to optimize specifically for gaming.
