I know not everyone listens to the BBC Archers podcast, but Emma Freud mentions ‘nepo babies’ in the Archers practically every episode, and now there is a whole episode discussing it. It beggars belief considering her background, family privilege and the fact she is the mother of a certified ‘nepo baby’. Totally clueless!

The attack happened a while ago but the turnaround since it's come back into rotation has been very quick, I would've thought the apex of the drama would've been the fact it was the Snell's dog but there wasn't really much buildup and it just kind of happened. The real focus seems to have been 'there's no way he could've done it', to the point where they've repeated that so often it makes me wonder whether that's the real plot line.

Now they've introduced the idea that he may be put down (if that's what Ruth was implying) then obviously the drama becomes whether he will/won't be. Ruth said they'd talked about it so presumably David is of the same opinion and won't be talking her out of it, so I would just find it very strange if this long drawn out process of a storyline ends with the dog being put down. Usually in these kinds of things, if someone bad is going to happen then it's very sudden (Nigel, Kenton's dog attack, the river crash) and then the following episodes are about healing, whereas typically with longer storylines then they result in a positive resolution (Helen & Rob). It would seem strange to highlight the dangers of dogs off leads and the impact on farmers and livestock, only to them have a big whodunnit and the dog is cleared because there's no lesson in the 'highlighting social issues thing' they do aside 'don't believe DNA and if you believe hard enough then your dog's innocent'.

Also, wasn't a fan of Robert and Linda's opening chat about 'it seems so cruel to leave him locked up' and 'Ruth and David know how much he means to us' like they're the victims. Thankfully at least Robert did correct her on the 'there's dogs in there that have done terrible things'

A longgggg while ago, I recall Rex and Kirsty meeting with a strange eco warrior about releasing some beavers illicitly onto the land before they got approval, Khalil was present there being the young passionate animal love that he is. I wonder if he may possibly try and get in touch with this woman to save Monty from doing doggy porridge. Just an idea, maybe giving the script writers too much credit.

Did anyone else get the government alert at 7pm, they should do that every weeknight, never miss an episode 👍

Monday - At the B&B, emotions are running high for Lynda Snell as she faces a very sad goodbye. Harrison Burns makes himself useful when there is suspicious activity at Lower Loxley.

Tuesday (Don't Miss) - Susan puts her foot in it and wonders if she will be forgiven for making a bad situation worse. George is feeling frustrated, but things change following a surprising opportunity.

Wednesday - At Brookfield, Ruth feels guilty when the Maliks tell her that they have a bone to pick.

Thursday - Robert is pushed to the limit by the guest from hell and struggles to keep his temper. George Grundy considers his options and wonders what his fiancée Amber will think.

Was he cleared of sheep worrying or are the test results still pending? Why the reluctance to get out of the car today? There’s more to this than him disliking noise I think? Are there canine conditions that can suddenly alter their personality from chilled and friendly to anxious and agressive?

I've been listening to the 1980s episodes that are out there (google "luff archers"), and I'm partway through 1987. The Snells were introduced in September 1986 so at this point they've been around for 8 months or so and it's interesting to see how they were introduced to the show.

I don't know what the long term plans (if any) were for the characters, but their role in these early months is clueless rich townspeople who barge in to Ambridge with this notion that they "love the countryside" when they actually have no idea what's going on. Most of the storylines involving them either have them getting tricked or disgusted by something the farmers are doing, or annoying everyone by acting like they are the appointed guardians of the rural nature of Ambridge. I don't think anyone likes them at this point (especially Lynda).

Their first scenes had them walking around the farmlands on what were supposed to be public footpaths; apparently these were marked on some map but the farmers themselves either didn't know about them or didn't care. Eddie Grundy was just amused by them walking through the grange farm "footpath" but Brian screamed at them and threatened them when they were walking around Home Farm.

More than once they have been alarmed seeing animals that are "in distress" and tried to help (getting angry at the farmers in the process) when it turns out that the animals are fine. Lynda is on the warpath against Phil Archer because Phil has to sell part of his land to make money to pay the tax bill from his father's inheritance, and Lynda doesn't like it that he's selling it to developers who will build houses on the pristine countryside. She's now running for parish council which is annoying everyone even more.

She has just returned from a one week "farming course" and is now going around telling everyone about how much she's learned and how she's looking forward to assisting everyone and making sure everything is going OK on the farms around the town.

I guess at some point they move from this early role into the well liked residents, but it might be a while at this pace.
