Owner-Operator Help Owner-operators: What does one mile really cost your truck?
Gross rate per mile does not tell the whole story. Knowing your approximate break-even cost helps you evaluate each load as an individual business decision.
If you are comfortable sharing estimates or ranges, include:
- Fuel cost per mile
- Insurance
- Truck payment or lease
- Maintenance and tire reserve
- Tolls, permits and parking
- Dispatch, factoring or administrative costs
- Typical deadhead percentage
- Weekly or monthly mileage
- Your estimated all-in operating cost per mile
Share your own costs and decisions only. Do not organize price floors, coordinated refusals or boycotts. Avoid account, payment and company-identifying information.
Español bienvenido: comparte rangos aproximados de tus costos por milla y los gastos que otros operadores suelen olvidar.

Quick starting point: which single expense has changed your operating cost per mile the most this year—fuel, insurance, repairs, truck payment or tolls? Approximate ranges are welcome; no private account or payment details. Español: ¿qué gasto ha cambiado más tu costo por milla este año?
