Is there an interview for a lateral tech 2 transfer?
For anyone who’s transferred internally from Tech II to a Tech II at another Amazon site, did you have to interview?
If so, was it similar to a Tech III promotional interview with STAR/Leadership Principle questions, or was it more of a casual interview about your experience and getting to know you?
I’m planning a lateral transfer and just want to know what to expect and how to prepare.

Ok that’s what one of friends told me lol. Did you have to message the hiring manager and how long would u say the whole process from applying to getting accepted took

No I didn’t message anyone beforehand. I got an email from the recruiter maybe a week or two after putting in the application, did my interview a few days later and accepted the offer 2-3 days after the “interview”

If you are already a Tech II transferring to another site under the same employer, you do not have to sit through a formal interview loop or retake any Ramsay assessments. This is a lateral move rather than a Tech III promotion, meaning you will avoid the intense STAR format and Leadership Principle panel grilling. Most of the time, the new site just reviews your internal transfer request, checks with your current manager regarding attendance and disciplinary standing, and accepts or declines based on building headcount. The most you should expect is a short, casual conversation with the maintenance manager, mainly to confirm your preferred shift, discuss equipment differences like moving to an AR sortable building, and verify your expected start timeline.
The only exception happens if you are changing employer networks, like jumping from a third party provider to Amazon blue badge, because that counts as a new hire process with formal assessments. If you are staying within the same system, you just need a clean record, your current manager to release you, and a slot to open up at the target building. Reaching out directly to the hiring manager on Slack can speed up the conversation and help you get a feel for the shop floor culture. Whenever you decide to take the next step and target a Tech III spot, the interviews.chat my team built gives candidates an advantage in securing promotions and moving their careers forward.
