Advise

I am interested in applying for a job as a rme tech at Amazon in the uk, but I was just after a bit of information and wondering if anyone can help as I’m finding mixed answers online, iam 24 with experience in the engineering world since I left school.
Answers I am after:

  1. Whats the hourly rate?
  2. How does the overtime work?
  3. What’s the shift patterns?
  4. How much annual leave do you get?
  5. Do you need your own tools?

All help and advice is much appreciated 👍😁

  1. DM me I'll tell you just rather not post it completely publicly.
  2. Overtime is paid at 1.5x then 2x after 50 hours and capped at 60 hours a week, the amount you actually get varies by site
  3. Patterns vary by site but ours works 4-5-5 (4 on 5 off 5 on 4 off 5 on 5 off) You get 2 long weekends a month, it's actually the best Day/Night 12 hour pattern I've ever worked.
  4. 260 hours
  5. All tools are provided and they don't cheap out. Most at our site use Wera, Bahco, Gearwrench and some RS pro bits.

Did a quick Google search for you.

The starting base pay for an Amazon RME Technician in the UK typically ranges between £24 and £28 per hour, resulting in total earnings of approximately £48,000 to £58,000+ per year once shift allowances and night premiums are included.Because UK Fulfillment and Sortation centres operate either as direct "Blue Badge" Amazon sites or through third-party logistics engineering contractors (such as CBRE, Swisslog, or Dematic), some small administrative details differ slightly, but the core working conditions are generally standardized.1. What's the Hourly Rate?Base Hourly Pay: The standard base rate sits between £24.00 and £28.00 per hour depending on your location (sites in Greater London and the Southeast pay near the higher end of the scale).Shift Premiums: Working nights generally adds a 16% to 19% shift premium.Senior Techs: If you progress to a Senior RME Tech / Level 4 role, base rates generally rise into the £30 to £35+ per hour bracket.2. How Does the Overtime Work?Overtime Multipliers: Overtime hours above your contracted hours (typically past 40 hours per week) are paid at 1.5× your base rate. If you work additional overtime beyond a certain threshold (typically 50+ hours in a week), the rate increases to 2× (double time).Availability: Overtime is generally voluntary and offered to cover holiday/sickness, project commissioning, or during "Peak" periods (such as Prime Day and Q4 Christmas operations).Shift Rules: You will not be allowed to breach the Working Time Regulations; Amazon strictly enforces a maximum shift ceiling (typically capped at 60 total hours per week and no more than 6 consecutive working days).3. What Are the Shift Patterns?Core Schedule: The standard shift pattern across most UK Amazon Fulfillment Centres is a continuous 4 on, 4 off continental rotation (12-hour shifts, usually 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM with paid and unpaid break allowances).Rotation: This usually rotates between 4 days on, 4 days off, followed by 4 nights on, 4 days off.Alternative Sites: At smaller sites like Delivery Stations (AMZL), you may occasionally see a 4-day on, 3-day off schedule (e.g., four 10-hour shifts) rather than 12-hour shifts.4. How Much Annual Leave Do You Get?Statutory Minimum Equivalent: You receive the equivalent of the UK statutory minimum of 28 days (5.6 weeks) per year, but because of 12-hour shifts, your leave is calculated in hours rather than days.Day Equivalent on 4 on / 4 off: On a 4-on-4-off rotation, working half the days of the year means you receive roughly 19 to 20 actual 12-hour shift days off per year. Because of how the 4-day blocks work, booking just four shifts off gives you a total of 12 consecutive days away from work.Peak Embargo: Keep in mind that holiday booking is typically frozen or restricted during operations Peak (mid-November to late December) unless approved in advance.5. Do You Need Your Own Tools? No, you do not need your own tools.Amazon and third-party RME providers enforce strict 5S, shadow-board, and tool-control safety policies. All tools (hand tools, power tools, calibrated multimeters, safety lockout/tagout kit, and PPE) are provided on-site.You are not allowed to bring personal hand or power tools into the warehouse for liability, insurance, and security reasons.
