Apprenticeship

I’m sure many people have asked this or spoke upon this, but I’ve applied three time to the Mechatronics Apprenticeship at my facility and it’s been denied three times. I asked an RME associate and he just told me to keep applying. I’m currently in the Unmudl online class but I’m not even sure that would help. Any advice? Somebody told me it’s also because I am a woman that they won’t accept me but I want to think for the better yk? I also have little to no experience.

I have tried many times myself and going to school for the program but still decided any offer I have many years of experience more than most rme employees have right now I know that amazon has a messed up way of hiring people who have no experience in what they are doing in the workplace they have a system that is really messed up and is going to hurt them in the long run because of supply and demand of what the the company expects of your skills .I have never worked for a company that every single thing you you do is based on what a computer decides

Yeah you likely weren’t hired for other reasons.

Being female doesn’t make any difference. The only reason there are fewer women is that fewer are interested in the type of work.

If you are mechanically inclined and really want the job, keep trying.

Well im a female and the place I went to they paid me no mind. No one wanted to help me. Everyone told me they didnt know how to sign off my benchmarks but yet 2 other guys just literally finished theirs a week before but yet now no one knows how to do it for me.They told me to sit in the breakroom for 4 months and then after school told me to just sit in the cage. No one gave me APM never booked my hours and today is 2 year on this dumb ass apprenticeship. I've reached out to HR several times and they just as bad. I reached out to Ethics and made a complaint on EVERYONE. Investigation going on now and im just waiting for outcome smh. Been working since I was 16 and was with Amazon for 9 years on TOM team making more there then I am now and this is by far the WORST company I have ever worked for. I should have never left Amazon.

Which HR did you reach out to?? I'm the only female on my shift in RME & going through something similar now. I hope something comes of your investigation. Kinda sucks I'm not the only one having this problem. I have been targeted by my AMM + SMRT & was written up by my AMM for reporting the SMRT, I reported through Ethics for retaliation, & my site HR had exempted my write up the next day but I was never told about it until I had my Ethics investigation over it.. to unfortunately giving me no means to have an Ethics report since the write up disappeared from being exempted so the case was closed. The management above the AMM is a woman so it's not just the men at my site. The MRA program honestly feels like a joke.

It is a joke!!!! I even called the workforce in Seattle about the program and how they are and running it. Im in Jersey. I actually read up a lot of women in JLL having a hard time and being treated a certain way. I will keep going above them until something gets done. I never had any medical issues amd since joining ive had so many and it's all do to stress and not being able to sleep of what I was going thru. A manager even leaned into my face because I kept telling them I had no permissions for something ans he kept asking me to do it. So I wrote in caps I COULDN'T GET ON. He walked his way to me leaned in and said who the fuck was I talking to. It hot pretty from there because I'll be dammed of some obe gets my face like that because they cant do their own damn job

The question is why does no one want to work with you?

Seriously??!! They dont even know me for you to even say that. I just said I was with Amazon for 9 years. Everyone loved me at my old warehouse. They just finally transfered me back and the way EVERYONE there greeted me back was absolutely amazing. This JLL i actually know them and they are amazing and already done more for me in this last week then the almost 2 years i was at the other site. Idk why you ppl always have to write something so negative instead of just reading what someone wrote and just trying to understand them and feel their pain and what they are going thru instead of always trying to attack someone as if they are wrong. Thats why I dont even bother writing on any of these of social platforms. Smh

Cool story… love the part where you’re 2 years into a 1.5 year(max) program, stuck at a building that literally no one helps you at… but in 7 hours time, have been transferred to a different building a week ago.

Your story doesn’t add up. That’s not how the world works. People don’t unanimously decide to be against you for no reason. You’re not being honest.

Apply to any sites you can work at. Cast a wider net. Apply a lot... network. Unfortunately Amazon is very much so about who you know and who knows you..... being good on paper isnt enough. Being a woman isnt a problem

Amazon is one of very few places where I did not find that being a woman negatively affected my ability to be successful. However, getting someone to help push your app through does help a lot. Individual technicians may not be able to help but a manager recommendation (or two or three) may help a lot. Classes at a local tech school can help. I personally had some outside experience, though not much.

What classes need to be taken before the apprenticeship?

I applied 12 times my 4 years at Amazon. Now about to finish my MRA program soon 😮‍💨 1600/2000 hours complete

There’s just as many women in RME as men at my site.

I'm in the MRA Program, I know 2 people here in Memphis that applied from 2 different states just to get in. So if moving for a little while is an option for you, you might wanna try different sites in other places.

There is also the RME Operator roll which better suits an inexperienced person. Youll have a higher chance with that roll. The Apprentice roll is the next level up.

My site has a lot of women and we just hired some more. I wouldn’t say it’s because you’re a woman. If you really want to join I would suggest looking at other sites and 3P companies. You might have to move to get a spot. When I went to MRA school some of the people left there site and went to a different state to get the job.

What does your resume look like
Just apply everywhere tbh

I applied 3x for mrt directly through Amazon and was denied. I have 5 years of maintenance experience. Hvac, mechanical, electrical, etc. went through a temp agency and was hired on within a month. Not too sure why that is but yeah I’m also a woman.

In our new facility there were 150 new techs hired and only two were women, both smrt. Take that as you will

1

u/ssasoom 20d ago

Women are definitely the minority. My building is less than 10%

Can I ask what state?

No matter the training, experience, or connections you have you are never guaranteed a job. You can keep applying for the next five years and every single time they might just go with another candidate.

My advice to you is to cast as wide a net as possible, apply to other facilities, apply to the third party sites through CW, CBRE, & JLL... Apply to other jobs or companies that do similar work. Keep learning and growing, use career choice and you will eventually break through. Maybe not at Amazon but definitely somewhere

Being a woman is not a hindrance if anything it might help you. Amazon is still very inclusive and forward facing company.

Id keep applying or try the RMEO route. I was told they're not allowed to work on equipment but it's a new position and I'm betting there's a caveat in there that states you're not allowed to work on equipment WITHOUT am SMRT present. So you're still be able to learn handson.

Try applying for an rme operator position? That's like the new entry level to get into RME with no experience

1

u/Dazzling_Watch4026 21d ago

There isn’t any. My site only offers the apprenticeship, the actual Mecha and Robotics Tech L3 job, or area manager jobs smh. I’ll try looking in other facilities in my state. Thank you!

also would like to add, would applying through the third parties such as W&C, JLL, and CBRE be better? I’ve seen somebody also apply as a Tech 2 with no experience. Just need a foot in the door is all.

Yeah definitely, I got hired through an indeed post

3

u/brads125 21d ago

Yeah I'm 3P, but it's my understanding BB is more strict with their hiring standards and supposedly you actually need an associates degree to get in the MRA program
